Diane bounced off Sam perfectly and always took the insults of the others pretty well. It cannot have been easy to always play the outsider in the group. The others were like a gang and she was the one kid tagging along.. "I want to play too!" Its not her fault she was from a different background and had different tastes. I thought the rest were too harsh on her especially Carla. Despite the nastiness, Diane persevered in trying to understand and get on with them. And lots of well meaning attempts to advise and help. Stayed true to herself, didn'ttry to become something else to fit. Didn't whine and moan like Kirstie Alley. You can see how well Shelley played her character because she never came across as rude or obnoxious. Spirited and lively. Constantly teasing Sam. Sometimes strong and feminist. Sometimes silly and childish. A really multi faceted character.
