Super writing acted out so well, absolutely fantastic Diane.

"Sam.. Your hormones have staged a coup d''etat on your brain!". Fantastic line, perfectly delivered. Shelley Long excelled as Diane on "Cheers" - no doubt about it.

And... in character, few if any at Cheers seem to get it, but Gary clearly knows he just got insulted, and well.

I watch this show from the first season to the last, then watch it again. And I'm always nostalgic. also it makes me feel sad about getting old.

Good for you. Never understood how people could stand Carla. I blame the writers, of course. The only character on TV more repulsive was Karen on Will & Grace.

Shelley was the best. I think she must've been a lot like Diane to have played the character as well as she did.

@@armandomorales3809 You obviously don't know what a psychopath is. Diane was neurotic, certainly, buy take a closer look at the other denizens of that bar. The majority of people consider themselves "normal" because they are used to the company of similarly afflicted souls.

+Jim Gallagher. Whether she was "a lot like" her or not, you don't know much about acting or actors if you think one of them can be effective only when the character reflects his/her personality. However, I agree Shelley Long was one of the best.

I don't know what really happens behind the scenes and all the politics. But I agree that Diane was "the best" on that series. I really liked everything about her. And no offense to Kirsty Alley, but no way did she even come close to comparing with Diane. I never like Rebecca Howe - always bitchy, a chip on her shoulders, and otherwise just kind of stupid (and rarely funny)..

Trying to watch the post-Diane years on reruns as I stopped watching the show religiously after she left. Actually, the most painful character for me to watch was Sam. I have to remind myself that ultimately, Cheers was a comedy and Sam's "incurable sex addiction" was played for laughs. He remained a decent caring friend to his barmates, but I sure missed seeing him try to figure out how to make someone else happy and make sacrifices; Diane tried to do the same. It was probably for the best that Shelley Long left, but boy, it was so much fun while it lasted!
