Peter Bromley, John Penney and Raleigh Gilbert good commentators. Sadly the BBC ignore racing now..

I have the infamous distinction to be the only punter on that day in 1981 who thought Shergar was overrated 🤦♂️.. and backed my judgement by putting my last £5 e/w on Chris Thorntons Shotgun ridden by The Long Fellow … which proceeded to goad me even worse by finishing 4th…. Sigh .. 🤦♂️ 🤣 👍🏴

This was very well put together and must've taken a while to do so. 1 question of interest: Did you record full episodes of Grandstand back in the day when racing was on or just the racing part? If you did have full episodes of Grandstand, I'd be keen to know. Many thanks

I thought Desert Orchids Gold cup win was magnificent .. but after id read the book on his life by his owner Richard Burroughs describing how Dessie Hated Cheltenham and running left handed pinched nerves in his back during the race AND he hated heavy ground made him winning it that day utterly joyous and incomparable 👏 👍🏴

@@HorseRacingLegends yup ! I was an apprentice brickie working on a post office building somewhere in Glasgow at the time and listening to the 1982 Gold cup from the roof of the unfinished building 😀.. as SB had won 2 King George’s for me and being a tit when it came to comparing form etc I saw no reason why I shouldn’t follow it off a cliff like a right stupid punter 😳.. Foreman liked a punt too so he allowed me to get down the bookies near the bus station in Buchanan street as long as took his bet too and the brickies I was working for too 😆.. I was paid £23 a week as a wee slave to they F#%^*#s and had the bright idea to put £15 of that on Silver Buck at ( can’t remember if it was 8/1 or 10/1 - just remember thinking I was super clever to be stealing money cos it had won the King George twice 2 years previously 🤦♂️) … of course it won and I was the richest but luckiest and dumbest apprentice in Scotlands history 🤯… and a gambling problem began 😝 Long since stopped gambling but it took a toll for a long time .. and it was all down to a big Black splendid chaser and and a lucky hunch fae a right divot with a wee trowel and nae sense 🤣 👍🏴

Damn that Birds nest 🤬 That 1979 1000 guineas is a fav for me , I backed the unbeaten at the point Cecil fav , One in a million but it also contained a fav of mines called Topsy bit more importantly it also contained Devon Ditty who was the 1st horse I ever put money on when it won the Cheveley Park among others as a 2yo , it had no chance at a Mile , it was a 6f sprinter through n through , still wonderful to see it though 👌 👍🏴

I was in stitches watching the finish where Earthstopper won , I would’ve no doubt backed the faller Approaching from Josh Gifford stable - the length of stirrup and patent lack of athleticism is startling ! I’m no jockey I should state .. but I’ve been spoiled by AP , Ruby , old Scudamore , Richards Johnson and Dunwoody since that time . If approaching was in the race it must be 79-83 ish . 😃 👍🏴
