Wonderful. Back in the seventies, our band backed Eli singing. We were booked for a company Christmas dinner dance at a hotel in Altrincham and Eli was the guest act. It wasn't easy😅

I've read this comment on several posts - what was it about Eli's singing that I don't know? I suppose I remember him only for the Box sketch

@@Thursdaym2 Didn't you run through his intended routine first - ?

I remember that series. I wonder if you have the episode I think from Scotland which featured the incomparable Billy Dainty doing one of his comedy ballet routines. Been looking for that sketch for years.

It's right what they say , you've either got it or you haven't , and the only one that had it on that stage was young Eli .

I hear you but I know that sketch well. It looked effortless with good old Roy Castle holding the box but I think James Casey was rather thrown not getting the right cues at the right time which are key in making this sketch work. A stooge seems like a subservient role but the lack of a good one makes even the best of comics flounder. Roy Castle who usually did that role was a comedian, musician and dancer so his timing was exemplary. That's clearly lacking here. Seek out the Parkinson version from 1982 which is up here to see this sketch really work.
