Don't need to saute the onions just drop the Johnsonville brats and onion in the beer. Par boil and then brown on the grill. Toss back into the beer after cooking.

That's what my uncles in Green Bay used to do, basically the same as he did but back in the first pot after the grill.

Good cooking method & props for saying the onion jam is controversial. Being a pursuit, I would put those onions on it, sauerkraut & mustard. Cool backdrop of Lambeau Field!

I’m a Usinger’s man myself. Could you post a link to the brats that you use?
@gavinpeters93866 ай бұрын
They’re Konop brats. It’s a meat market in Stangelville that is basically in the middle of no where but all of their stuff is great.

never boil your brats. used to do this and then learned it only cooks out all the juices.
@thomasstambaugh51813 ай бұрын
If just simmer them (not boil) and NEVER poke hole in them, then they keep their juices. When they're done, you'll hear the the ends sizzle a bit as the vaporized juices try to escape. The grill adds color to the outside (like a hot dog) -- they're already cooked when they come out of the simmer.

No sauerkraut? Not good, IMO. The best brats in WI in the 1950s and 60s were Sheboygan brats. I think they are no longer available. Go Pack Go!

Sheboygan brats are available at woodman’s market in Green Bay. 40 ounce package for $7.49 16 ounce package for $3.99, as of 6/23/24.

People who boil /simmer brats should be jailed. Sear and low heat on on the grill till done. Only use the beer/onion bath to hold temp before serving.
