Cheetah Feeding As Vultures Wait | Maasai Mara Safari | Zebra Plains

A distant view of one of the cheetahs of the Mara feeding on a Thomson's gazelle with a couple of lappet-faced vultures in attendance. Some Ruppel's and white-backed vultures also can be seen. The distance was too far to be able to identify which cheetah it was. Often cheetah will abandon their meal when vultures arrive so it was a surprise to see this cheetah continuing to feed in the presence of the vultures. The reason that cheetah often leave their meal once vultures arrive is that other predators may be attracted by the vulture activity and a cheetah cannot defend itself against most other predators.
