An extremely shocking sighting of an adult leopard stalking and catching a cheetah cub while its mother tries to protect it.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
This insane sighting was captured by tour agency, Safari Nest, while on a game drive on the S119, 400m from the S25 on Friday the 21st of January 2022, in the Kruger National Park.
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
The Safari Nest Team tells LatestSightings.com the story: “Earlier in the morning we were at a leopard cub sighting. The leopard was in a tree and the cub leaped out of the tree and disappeared into the bushes. We decided to go for a drive to Gardenia hide along the S119 where we spotted three cheetahs walking in the riverbed towards the S25.”
“It was very hot, and we decided to record a video of the cheetah walking down the riverbed with the two cubs playing. Suddenly, from the thickets of the brush, a leopard appeared charging through, injuring one of the cheetah cubs!”
“The helpless cub was paralyzed from the impact and the relentless attack. The mother cheetah tried to rescue her cub and fight back, but she was no match for the leopard. The mother cheetah was chased into the bushes by the leopard, and she sat there keeping an eye on her little one.”
“The leopard then left the cub in the blazing heat and went to rest in the bushes just behind the injured cub. The cub was exhausted and tried its hardest to get up and get away, but it was too badly injured. The leopard then re-appeared, stalked the cub and finally took it out of its misery as it dragged it into the bushes.”
“The poor mother and the other cub did not go far, and they spent the whole afternoon trying to find the missing cub, the next morning the mother and cub were seen in the riverbed close to where the leopard killed the little one. 3 days after the cub was killed the mother and the other cub are still mourning their loss.”
“In the beginning, this was just an ordinary sighting. Nobody saw the leopard and all our focus was on the cheetahs. When the leopard took down the cheetah cub we were amazed and shocked! Nobody could believe what they had just witnessed! This was the type of wildlife sighting you only see on T.V.”
“This was the first time that we had ever witnessed a cheetah being killed by a leopard. Every sighting is special and unique so be prepared for anything at a sighting.”

What's funny and kinda sad is that, as you can see in this video, cheetahs are actually TALLER than leopards, yet this fact doesn't change anything, I mean, lions eat giraffes, so simply being tall isn't enough to save you from shorter but stronger opponents.

Likely no more than any other ambient sounds on the open plains. Cats rely more on scent and sight to watch for predators than on sound, and are themselves extremely quiet hunters. Seeing a leopard take out a cheetah is rare, but leave it to Kruger Sightings to bring the rare and extraordinary content. I kinda felt bad for the mother cheetah, seeing how she desperately wanted to save her cub from the leopard, but she wasn’t strong enough to fight off the leopard. Wow, extremely rare sighting. Even rarer is for a female cheetah to defend her cub like she did. Maternal instinct is a powerful thing for sure. She had no chance. Evolution swapped strength for speed. Always sad to see. The leopard sees them as competitors. Hope it wasn’t prolonged for the cub.

However tourism is critical to the survival of these great parks and their inhabitants. Leopards and lions are responsible for around 60% of cheetah deaths. I’m not sure those being there impacting the outcome. They don’t have human senses. They are extremely acute. It’s sad to see it happen. Your statement is emotive and unfortunately wouldn’t work. The way cats kill each other is to go for a spine bite. That's why these big cats will rather fight off their back than give the chance of that. The Leopard snapped that cheetahs back, than rolled onto its own back, and got to grips with the mother. These are EXTREMELY sophisticated predators, and (what looked to be) a fairly young male leopard knew once it had snapped the cubs spine, it could let go and deal with the mom! Seeing any cat die is hard for most humans, but if it makes you feel any better neither the lion, leopard, nor African cheetah are actually classified as "endangered." I'm not being a know it all, but for most of my life I thought they were endangered, too. They're considered venerable, which isn't much better. The cheetahs are slowly evolving to form male coalitions to take down larger prey, which of course they still won't defend against a larger predator. it still some progress.

Well it breaks my heart to see a young cheetah mauled but unfortunately they rarely fight back! The only defence they put in is running, and thats what they do the best. Leopard is a slick stalker, give him a chance and his attack will be relentless, even adults cheetah can be off guard sometimes. On the other hand saying a cheetah is very fragile , I tend to disagree on that! If a cheetah can take down a wildebeest( which sometimes can be tough even for a lion)that means in a good scenario he can fight back quite decent but as I said they are not fighting back( maybe mothers protecting cubs or males when mating arise)so ye, this is the problem with them! I would end this saying they are doing much better nowadys, and with all the great preservation programs, cheetah population will blossom again!

@@cirnosnumberfan6449 actually there are plenty of cases of lone cheetah (mostly male) killing adult wildebeest and even bigger antelopes.
