I had very intelligent female cat named Taffy who loved to go after my ears. One day I was cleaning my ear with a swab & she came up and grabbed the swab out of my hand & began chewing on it...I then realized it wasn't my ears that fascinated her, but rather she loved the smell and taste of my ear wax. Also I'd be sitting on the couch & she'd often get in these sort of playful moods where she'd come flying up my legs and run up my chest, grab both sides of my face with her paws, and give me a gentle bite on my nose. I loved that cat and miss her so much!😋

Wow! ear wax. I'd might think similarly about the wax and taste, but these cheetahs keep licking and biting over and over, especially the lobes that have no wax. Glad house cats nibble noses too. Some dogs do too.

Super Thanks for the donation! When I pay for the bill for the upkeep of my cheetahs, the average cost of each meal (includes both donnated and red meat I buy) equals about 4$ per cheetah per meal. Not bad, but it adds up and fluctuates based on the game meat.

@@deandewilde4658 That's right! It's 4 cheetahs now, the two cubs, Gabe's and Kimi (who eats the MOST out of ALL the cheetahs at this project!) I officially signed over Abi to Running Wild my last visit. It was something I was planning for years and did it. Rent cost for camps space, medical care, emergency vet visits all adds up, besides the costs to me for just being there. I really need to budget and create an income strategy when I have my own tiny project starting off.

I envy you so for your love of these animals and their lovefor you!! I adopted a domestic (somewhat feral) 4 month old that was abused and terrorized by children. After three long years, he’s finally developed a little trust in me. He head butted me for the first time last week. I think he’s finally warming up to me. He is TOTALLY dependent on me and won’t have anything to do with anyone else. Runs and hides if/when anybody comes over… even my girlfriend.

Ive seen a few zoos are now raising cheetah kittens (the dictionary can say what it wants, they are baby cats so they are kittens. Cubs is for wolves and bears, not sweet shy baby kitties) with emotional support dogs to help their anxiety, and it is the cutest thing! All cheetahs deserve a friend who makes them feel safe, loved, and happy, whether thats a human, another cat, or a dog

I know. Wish he had more people friends. Male cheetahs he hates. Females he wants to.... you know. Staff encounters him, but not like he REALLY likes, you sitting down and encountering you fully. But it's NOT recommended. It's too dangerous because he's got to really trust and respect you. He tried climbing on one women that sat down with him before. Got mad when I had to shooooww him off. They are animals still... do what they can get away with. He has better respect for men. Always has been from the beginning. Cheetahs bond with male cheetahs in a coalition, but not the females and thus...

What a dilemma when it hurts a lot but it's adorable! Yeah, my cat grooms my nose a lot because I have nerve damage there and can't really feel it. He bites my face if I don't wanna wake up or if we play fight. He nursed on my earlobes when he was a baby even though he just ate. I pretend to lick him back with my nose or a wet toothbrush. Gotta rub his ears too.

So... I have noticed that when housecats are VERY comfortable... they lovebite... I seen my best friend's female cat lick at his neck A LOT... She'd purr up a storm and make biscuits on his chest/clavicle as she did it. For my housecat, he'd lick my nose but lovebites was only my ears or playful nibbles on the side of my hands. Yet another friend's housecat would only nibble her earlobes. With big cats I have had a tiger lick my face once but the keepers tried to keep it from nibbling because I was even smaller then and well... Its a tiger. I seen a lot of cat videos where housecats and the 'lesser cats' seem to like grooming the face, head and ears a lot. The big cats though... well... I mean not a lot of people get such a privilege to be groomed by one but its similar. I figure all cats just kinda do the same grooming behaviours and tend to like whatever reminds them of childhood most. So earlobes and fingers are kind of the go-to.

Very cool! I need to tell you a dark secret that most pet owners do not consider. Gabriel and all the cheetahs in this video did not have mothers when growing up. It is unfortunate and I had zero control over their lives as they were not mine, except Gabriel when he was about 5 years old when I bought him. But what happens is they never get weaned, like our house pets never get weaned because we want a baby animal that imprints on us before adulthood. These animals are removed from mother too soon before weaning (no longer nursing from mom). They are never taught by mom when to stop the behavior of a cub/pup/kitten. Thus many animals like this maintain a LOT of their cub behaviors as adults. That goes for all cats and dogs. They are more likely to suckle, kneed and lick throughout adulthood. Now, the behavior is not the problem, but the removal of these animals from mom before they are weaned creates the problem. It creates health issues from growth, development, immunity to diseases, lack of hormones, proper nutrition that mom's milk provides, and much more like these cub behaviors. The cheetahs that are taken from mom early, like Gabriel, and the ones that remain with mom until weaned behave a LOT differently, besides personality and growth development. So, all my cheetahs stay with mom until mom leaves them, about 2 years old. Kimi is one of them and she is very cheetah like and does not need the licking and nibbling behavior. She still grooms, but it's not a necessity for her. She is bigger than Gabriel too and a hunter. The pet industry is like what happened to Gabriel. We all want pups and kittens, but we never understood the consequences of the health and mentality of the babies we take from mom or even consider the mothers emotional connection from taking these babies away so early. My family never considered it either as we had puppies too. I learned MUCH later in my life when I discovered cheetahs and the differences between projects that take mom away from the cubs early to tame them, sell them and make the mom get pregnant again earlier than she normally would to have more cubs. Then I saw the BIG difference between cheetahs raised fully with mom and those that were not. They were bigger, better, healthier, stronger and lived longer than cubs taken away from mom early. BUT, they were not as needy and cute like Gabriel. That is why all my cheetah cubs stay with mom for 2 years. Cubs that need taken away from mom is rare, but sometimes does happen for an ethical reason, like rejection. The secret is out. We make better decisions when better informed. Cheers.

@@CheetahWhisperer Very understandable all of that. Most housecats in The Netherlands have to be at least 8 weeks old before they are allowed to be sold or given away. But that does mean what you described. I cant speak for all the felines I met that still show this grooming/weaning behaviour. Some were 'rescues' (abandoned by mom and the foster parent had what they call a 'foster fail' and kept the housecat in question) but some were just... The obvious pet trade I suppose. My housecat was a kitten found stuck in the engine block of a car parked in a mildly desolate area. The tiger in question that was on a big cat preserve in... I think it was Spain... I was only allowed to get in the enclosure because 1) the 2 tigers in that enclosure are/were very used to people. 2) It was a quiet day with my small group of friends being the only visitors at the time. 3) The caretakers were impressed by my knowledge of big cat body language and handling knowledge that was prompted by me telling a friend off for staring at one of the tigers. The handlers asked some more stuff and eventually thought it would be safe to allow me to try and be in there with them and the tigers. Your info has led me to believe those tigers were mainly hand-raised in that aspect, as they showed very little interest in treating me like an intruder. I had to be put in the clothes of a caretaker and all that but in the end one of the tigers spent some time on my lap after it had accidentally knocked me over (a tiger gently bunting you in the legs like a housecat would is still quite an experience) and eventually decided to try and lick my face once or twice. Not something you can expect from just any tiger ever if not under these specific circumstances. A fun (and scary) once in a lifetime experience however.

Cats have deodorizing agents in their saliva. It smells really good, like a mild soap. If it does not, then bad teeth or sour stomach can cause their breath to be bad. Cats groom to spread this deodorizing agent on the fur and others (me) to help hide them from predators and prey and to keep their skin clean.
