Dave, this little "trick" always worked for my Father back when we went camping/hunting/fishing as kids. When you set the place where your griddle is going to be, either pour a little water into in or place a glass/cup of water on it before you start your fire. That way you can tap one corner or side (or whatever it takes) to level it up. That way after your fuel burns down to coals and you're ready to cook and you set your griddle on the stand (or where ever you had set it/leveled it to begin with) you know it's going to be flat so you don't have to worry about the grease or eggs (or what ever your cooking) trying to get away from you/slide to one end. I hope that I typed this in a way that it can be understood. That's for the video (and the laughs!). Take care Brother and God Bless!!!

When we camp I always break my eggs and put them in a coffee creamer container. You can pour out one whole egg at a time, or shake it for scrambled eggs. Works every time and you dont have to worry about breaking them.

Yum yum, great video! Really neat to see Nick's eyes get as wide as his smile when those assume flavors hit his taste buds. A little tip here for all us coffee lovers...crack a couple eggs first in a bowl and pop the egg shells into the perculator water and then brew your coffee. It takes your coffee to the next level of happiness! It deadens any acidity, brings out the roasting flavor, and adds a creaminess to your pallet! Only in perculators or cowboy brewing...not the instant, drip,etc. Also one should bring pot to a boil and then move to some less hotter coals to finish the perc. Constant boiling ruins the structure of the beans. Have fun! John

That's why it's difficult to make coffee in Colorado mountains. Water boils at lower temperature at higher elevation. 212 deg at sea level, about 202 deg here in Denver. Above 9000 feet you are getting below 195 deg boiling point. We usually camp between 10k and 12k feet above sea level.

Not bad for a first time. Nick is a man after my own heart. I too love a little grits with my butter and sugar. The eggs always taste better cooked in bacon grease. All you have to do is throw your bacon on and par cook it first. Then, set it off to the side while the fire dies down. Then pour off the 1st bit of grease and finish off the bacon. This will reduce having too much grease and leave enough to coat the griddle for perfect eggs. Or you could just do what my older brother does and get a 30" diameter cast iron frying pan and cook your entire meal at once.... eggs, bacon, homefries in the same pan. I think as you use your griddle more, you'll love it. As always, great video and keep them coming.

We have a huge cast-iron collection, we have two of those preseasoned Lodge platters we bought at the Lodge Outlet Store. I think they were designed as fajita serving pieces. We have a Lodge griddle that is round & has a handle, we use it every day. Our favorite modern Lodge piece is a cast iron wok. The thing weighs seventeen pounds. We do a southern pork stirfry that we serve on grits. We live in Montgomery & have a Thicket Encampment outside of Attalla. We do a bushcraft bohemian camp at the site. your southern bushcraft channel is a hoot! Thanks for your southern take on bushcraft life.

ha ha ha you cheater dave you used fat wood lol . i only say that cause i asked you once why you never use it and you said it was kinda like cheating lol . so just giving you a hard time . is that griddle cast iron or one of those fancy steel ones sounds like cast .never been big on grits but hey im a yankee lol . but the bacon and eggs looked great should have splashed some of that grease up on the cheese to melt it . thats a cast griddle im sure of it . good to see you and nick together . if you would have splashed a little grease up on that egg you would not have had to flip it . i like my bacon chewy but crunchy is good to lol . love the kukri and i have not seen bumble bee junction in a while might better go over and check if you tube purged me from there channel . and hey im one of those channels you got to start making videos buddy im sure glad you did . i know i went in a different direction then i thought i would but im sure having fun . thanks for that dave buddy . nothing beats a good cup of perk coffee . you know you got them holes in the sides of that griddle put a wood handle on it . or even a steel one . with a couple of washers and a bolt . man you had a wonderful breakfast buddy wish i was there lol . five out of five stars for the cooking video brother . your the man . thanks for hanging out dave always enjoy our time together .

Or he could pin through the sticking up loop, like Nick was trying to say. I don't think the handle missing was as much of a problem as not waiting till the flames burned down to just having coals to cook over . It's just now 5 am here and sure made me hungry. I know when I use to camp and fish , that hot bark would have even tasted great outdoors like that !!
@Reallybigmonkey15 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother. Yes, it's a cast iron griddle made in the USA by Lodge. Several commenters keep saying to spoon grease on the egg but I think it's easier to just flip it. I have idea what your original intentions were for your channel but I think it's turned out good. Congrats and thanks for watching brother

Because of the comments about percolator coffee “waking up the flavor” I did some research and found a lot of people feel it has more flavor compared to standard drip coffee. A LOT of people. So I bought a percolator and my whole family feels the coffee is more flavorful when perked. It’s more like what you get in a restaurant. This is one of the perks I have gotten from watching your videos!

Breakfast food is my favorite and the only way to make it better is by a campfire. For frying and pan-bread making I've really come to like the Coleman folding handle camp frying pan. It would help you wrangle the grease and be a little more forgiving about how "level" it was sitting. But I confess that I'm a pretty big Coleman fan anyway... love that little 24 pot/lid/coffee cup kit they sell. Their stuff is sturdy and reasonably priced. That Kukri is a beauty and that ferro rod is a work of art. Love the shaved fatwood tin... great idea. Compact and potent. You did a breakfast cooking demonstration one time where you deep-fried some sausage on skewers dipped in pancake batter and I STILL want to try that one... Those looked delicious. Great work guys; you are a dynamic deepwoods duo... Keep up the great work!
@Reallybigmonkey15 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We are glad you liked it. I actually have that exact Coleman pan and I love it! I was hoping this griddle would be a sit in place cook all device but in reality a cast iron pan might be better. I love the new kukri and ferro rod. Take care and thanks for watching

Hi guys, nice to see Nick again, Dave, I bet if you fabbed a cradle for that, like a ring that it sits in, it would give you stability all the way around and avoid all the lateral sway, and still provide you the ability to level the legs individually easily -- like when you stabilize the jacks on a trailer.
