Great video.. I love the fact you cook it with the oil instead of the pot. I have never seen it done this way and will def try it. I think I prefer softer onions and tomatoes but this way will give me a different texture.

I'm allergic to avocado unfortunately because I loved it as a child

Hello Dee, Very good recipe; thanks for sharing our recipes to the world! I've come to realized that many of us make our "Brule Jhol" very differently. I usually use all the ingredients that you've used, plus some diced red and green bell peppers. The bell peppers don't only look beautiful, but gives the dish a wonderful flavour! I also don't heat the olive oil, but add it straight from the bottle and mixed all ingredients well together.

Yikes! Thanks for all of your comments so many years ago. I happened to be looking at this video tonight and was encouraged that I was able to share something cool that "Mom" taught me. Appreciate the love. ;o)

Thank you, my step dad from Trinidad used to make this before he passed and now I have been able to make this thanks to your video. I had been looking for the recipe for a while. Thank you.

how much olive oil? Can you list the ingredients. I'll try it.

It's kind of all by inspection and to taste. Enough to cover the dish I'd say, I also stir while I'm pouring so the oil zaps everything. This may just be me but I'll use a bunch of oil (like 1-1.5oz? I havent measured it out) to make sure its all cooked, and then ill dump the buljol in a strainer to get out the excess. Again, you make it according to what you think will taste good (are you a tomato person? How salty do you want the saltfish?) Then modify it next time you make it. Good luck :)

List of ingredients is again nonstandard. saltfish, hot pepper, onion, tomato, non-hot pepper (Anaheim or bell is good), & black pepper are the standard core. Garlic, thyme, and hardboiled eggs are also added. You can even add ackee to make it like a jamaican-trini hybrid. I also find jalapeno goes really well

Yes, correct. I used a good bit of olive oil, because I like the sauce that is creates with the onions and tomatoes. I probably used about 1/4-1/2 cup for 14oz package. The cod will absorb the oil so use as much as you need. Olive oil is so good for you too.
