Chef pillai restaurant : My honest opinion | Kochi | so much negative, but why?

I have known chef pillai for the last 2-3 years and have met him once before, but not from his own restaurant. So this time i travelled to Kochi to try his cuisine, the kerala cuisine which he is spreading with love all around the world.
And sadly theres a lot of hatred spread around when discussing this particular Chefs food which i dont understand why. I went with high expectations and the nirvana went even above that! Rest of it, watch! And tell me what you feel from the video.

The only issue I have with Pillai's restaurant is the price. There are restaurants that serve equally good if not better food but the price is just unreasonable for the service and food they offer.. no matter how you justify it, it just not worth the money. The ambiance is average and it's nothing special. The service is also average, so there is absolutely no reason why they should be charging this much..

I think it is just a one time visit, that too for people who can afford. No one would go there second time and spend that kind of money again. Returning customers will be very rare, because you can get more or same food taste and better quantity in other restaurants.

Can be, cz me, ill be returning there only for their nirvana. Cz thats a must try from there. Rest of the dishes if you get the first taste mayb you can recreate. But what i loved about the place is, we need to forget that its in kochi cz its not ONLY IN KOCHI, when we think about how OUR HOMELY KERALA CUISINE is gonna be trending in different parts of the world, proud feeling no.

Hey I have been a great follower of chef pilla’s taste and recipes for a long time But the experience and hospitality I had from the restaurant not that much you hyped and shown in this video. I have tried almost every dishes and the nirvana and falooda tasted good from others. All other dishes seem normal taste to me and my friends. And about the hospitality I had is pathetic, when we had ordered starter they had served just before falooda (end of the food) and their response is also very slow and all. I didn’t get that hyped vibe that your mentioning in video, I think they are providing 2 types of hospitality when you are a known person and unknown person ! Maybe I should try it without hype right !? This is not a degrading comment, Iam just sharing my experience 😊

Hey its totally fine!! Theres a lot of people attacking me personally for sharing my positive views, but yours is a perfectly honest and open comment which i really appreciate. One of my very dear friends also told me about the same thing. And being honesti have been in kochi several times in the last year but i only decided to go that day cz i knew chef pillai was there that day, as i personally knew him. Mayb thats why i got the positive experience i did. As he was there and im a friend of his, notice how he even gifted two curries from his side (which was a lovely gesture from his side) and me being brutally honest and saying that both those curries arent anythng special 🤣 so yes i honestly just shared my thoughts too. Not dismissing yours. It may very well be true as i have heard similar stories too.

Hyped and too much price.. in Bangalore restaurant(opp to phoenix mall) ambients also looks very normal but still the price is very high..normal people can never afford.. Fish Nirvana one plate is 900 rs 😅😅

It's not worth paying so much for so little. Quantity of the items is pathetic and the size of the plates in which they serve the dishes are inversibly proportionate to the quantity. Looks so funny when the dishes are served in those huge plates. Service at the outlet near Phoenix Mall, Banglore needs to be much more efficient. But having said that, taste of the dishes are just fantabulous!

Sea food dishes nice ആണ്. Especially Nirvana! Quilon chicken fry ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടില്ല. അതിലും നല്ല chicken fry തട്ടു കടയിൽ കിട്ടും. പിന്നെ kalyana biriyani ആവറേജ് ആയിട്ട് തോന്നി. Not upto the level of biriyani you get from Kozhikode/Kannur.

Absolutely. We visited the one in Bangalore, couldn't say it is exceptional or something above the other. Nothing special to be hyped. It's a decent Kerala cuisine like any other above average Kerala restaurant. Even we too felt, when you checkin as one among the common public the preparation would be different or not as special as the one which has been prepared under chef's direct supervision. So it's always better to check the comment session of any food blog to get the actual review, bcoz there goes common man's experience ;) lesson learnt

It's just hype using his personality. I admire his personality however restaurant can't be rated just because of that. Quality and quantity of the food is below average in Bangalore outlet. Not a value for money. His team replies to all good comments. But no acknowledgement of honest feedback.
