Yes, nowdays eggs sold in market are not fertile but that wasn't always the case. Earlier eggs consumed were fertile before the whole farm industry thing. So, thats why eating eggs was considered killing a potential life. With dairy products it doesn't harm the animal life in any way. Also, we all drink milk as infants is part of our natural diet until and unless you develop lactose intolerance later in life. Plus, cows are sacred in India, often called mother lovingly and India is a heavily agricultural based country so cow products are widely used and accepted. Many religious ceremonies make use of milk products since they are considered sacred. So, thats why it is very common in India to find recipes that are substitute of non veg food. Animal protein is replaced by plant protein and in this case dairy protein. The basic idea is to not to hurt or kill the animal. But if course, it depends on what part of India are we talking about and what religion and what part of religion they are practicing. Shaktism practicing hindus in bengal would offer meat products to gods while Vaishnavism practicing hindus would never in their wildest dreams go anywhere near.

Many people consider egg as non vegetarian even though it may be unfertilised. But milk or milk products which do not cause any harm to the animal is considered vegetarian. Also a weird thing but many house holds do not consume mushrooms because it's not vegetarian even though it's not meat/meat product. It all comes down to different religious beliefs in different regions vs the availability of food in those regions. Its quite interesting really. Going back to the egg topic, if you go to an Indian supermarket and buy a product you'll see a green or a red dot on the packet. It's to indicate the use of any non vegetarian ingredients in the food product. Now they have introduced a yellow dot as well for food that has no non vegetarian ingredients except eggs.

This might be a little bit of folk history ish, but the odd number heuristic comes from the old tradition of avoiding a real penalty for accidentally/or intentionally shorting someone so, “throwing in an extra one” in “for good measure” as a sort of a culinary tradition. Hence the “baker’s dozen.” I may be simultaneously pulling something out my ass and putting smoke in it as the same time. People tend to get food in pairs, or singular. 4 people? Make enough for 5 to avoid clap back. Or something like that. What do I know? I do know that don’t know nothing? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To specify, what I think works the best is a bread that can turn hard as rock. You then break it to small bite sized pieces and that’s what you soak in vanilla infused milk, with a touch of salt. I see lot of people already addressed this but for a better understanding: 1. Non-Vegetarian (Marked with a Red Dot on the corner for food packaging) This doesn't necessarily mean someone who eats all meat, rather you eat some form of meat. Depending on religions, regions and cultures, one may or may not consume beef, chicken, lamb, pork, fish, crustacean etc. 2. Vegetrain with egg (often called Eggetarian locally, marked with an Orange Dot on the corner for food packaging): Same classification as vegetarian in western world. 3. Vegetarian (Marked with a Green Dot on the corner for food packaging): Same as a vegetarian except no eggs (as eggs are considered meat by many). There's no restriction on dairy. 4. Vegan (Marked with a green letter V on the corner for food packaging): Same classification as vegan in western world. 5. Jain (No official classification for food packaging, but often marked with a green letter J. Also known as strict vegetarian): This is a complicated one. So no meat, no eggs, dairy is fine, but no root vegetables or fruits. For example, garlic, onion, potato etc are not allowed. An oversimplification, but in short this stems from the Jain faith, where removing complete root for consumption is considered killing the plant, while trimming the tops or extracting fruits is considered ok. 6. Pescetarian (No official classification for food packaging): This is an uncommon category in India but most commonly found in the regions of West Bengal, where from personal experience we've seen people claiming to be vegetarian eat fish (probably because the category pescetarian isn't widely known, athough many still argue that fish isn't meat). Another mythological story I've been told often as a kid, is that a fish had accidentally entered into a god's bowl of elixir during an event where the elixir had to be consumed (but meat consumption wasn't accepted), so it was thus classified as a non-meat to bypass the situation. There are many other people whose beliefs have evolved over time but the above are the most common categories. [FUN FACT]: A major chunk of Hindu's who eat either meat or eggs, will not consume the same on one specific day of the week as either an offering of submission or as an atonement towards a diety. This day can change based on their faith in a specific god, but the most common one is Tuesday.

I guess the answer to WHY didn't he explain the reason behind an eggless recipe is probably that for Indian audience it is a default. You will find so many eggless recipes for dishes traditionally contain egg, be it cake or cheese cake or others. It is very normal and in fact very demanded in India to have eggless recipes of these dishes. I guess probably that's why he didn't explicitly state the reason.

Jamie is really good with French toast, I'd definitely add some cream to that mix and more cinnamon. He has a great French Toast crumpet recipe aswell, which is a savoury version "Eggy French Toast Crumpets | Jamie Oliver"

Pure Vegetarians in India don't consider the egg vegetarian. There are bakeries especially in Southern India that offer eggless cakes and bakery eats that traditionally include eggs in their original western recipes.

The worst choice Jamie Oliver made was including the hazelnuts. Also, stale bread would have been good, and much less yogurt. But the real crime is using hazelnuts in anything.

One reason that Indian folks use so much English is that it's a language of exchange among Indians who don't speak the same language. India has hundreds of languages, most of which aren't mutually intelligible. So, English is a good compromise for them to speak with even each other.

We order factor from time to time, it's pretty good, and easy. I usually reheat with the oven method, just a personal preference of mine, doesn't take all that much longer. However. Peeling that @^#^$*$@% film off is never fun, I dont know what they seal it to the container with, but it may as well be epoxy. Lol. Other than that, I have no complaints about it at all. This french toast intrigues me, mainly the method itself, but is it just me, or does watching him cook and explain just seem to make you calm?

I like that Chef Ranveer is largely explaining what and why he's doing things a particular way in his recipe. I feel it's a great way help teach cooking and it helps give the chef the benefit of the doubt when they do something the viewer finds unusual. That lack of communication I feel is one of Jamie Oliver's biggest issues as it can make his recipes look random and don't help his viewers become better cooks.

Makes me curious what kind of French Toast is your guys' favorite? I've seen some wild ones out there, there's a hotel in Japan that makes it in a way where the inside of the bread is so soaked it becomes almost like a custard. Personally I'm a total 'egg mixed with milk dipped over the bread and then pan fried with a touch of maple syrup' guy.

Due to my poor ability to properly cook french toast, I've instead started making a french toast casserole which I actually like a lot better. The main reason is that it's simple for me to make and something you can make for breakfast while ensuring that you have enough for around four or five people.

When I make vegan french toast I use silken tofu instead of cream and season it with kala malak (black salt) which gives the creamy texture and the semi sulphuric eggy taste with the benefit of the protein added. I think a lot of people sleep on silken tofus versatility.

being a vegetarian in India means that you don't consume eggs (dairy is fine but eggs are not) so that's why lots of baked goods in India are made without eggs and they're just as good. I'm in Canada and I just can't find good eggless cake here because if you're a vegetarian in North America then you can still eat eggs, so here for birthdays and stuff there are local Indian residents who have started their own business where they sell eggless cakes and desserts, maybe trying them out is a good video idea 😉
