Thank you for your comment. I decided to make this free because among many other tutorials I found so many personal views on bossa nova that in the least case can confuse the visitors. For anyone who loves bossa nova music but can't speak Portugueuse, I've written an English poetic translation of this song's lyrics which almost completely matches the sylabic rhythms and stress patterns of the original words. Here it is below: Go my sadness, tell my love That without her I don’t know how I’ll go on Tell her in a daydream How distant it all seems And now my happy days are gone No more longing, no more love Now that she’s gone the world is growing dark around me All that’s left is sadness and melancholy That doesn’t leave, it doesn’t leave my mind But if she came back, if she came back What a lovely daydream, what a crazy daydream I’d give you more kisses than there are stars in the sky And my embraces would be warmer than the sunshine In my arms, our dreams would be So soft and sweet, forevermore our lives would be Entwined like this, aligned like this, divine like this I’d hug and kiss and love your sweet caresses without end And I would never be without my lovely lover again

A few questions, but firstly, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this particular music genre, it makes it (hopefully) possible for a very novice guitar player such as myself to maybe one day play this tune. That being said, I am struggling a lot on the basic rhythmic phrase in the beginning (the very first one). Do you have any suggestions?! I can get the pattern down, that is, the fingerpicking, but I cannot get the rhythm at a high enough or normal tempo smoothly or stable. I will check your website to see if you have any tips on there. Thanks again!

I'd recommend you start with easier songs, like Insensatez, Corcovao, Garota de Ipanema, Pra Machucar... This one can be quite challenging, especially the Partido Alto phrase played with legato in the second section. Good luck and let me know if you need some specific help.

Hi, first I want to thank you for the amazing lessons! I feel like I a missing something in this song - there is a discrepancy between the written chords and the ones you play in the video, as if you skipped a part. in the third line ("nu-ma prece" ) you write the chords bm7/-5 f6 am7 but instead you play em11 em7 a7/6. Which of them is correct?
@bossanovaguitar5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. I believe that with em11 em7 a7/6 you refer to the bridge section between 1st and 2nd section of the song, just before 'Mas se ela voltar' line. Everything is ok with the video, I just double hecked. If you need connection between lyrics and chords you can find it on bossanovaguitar.com site. Hei! one question? Is it the same tonic note as original? Thanks a lot!
@bossanovaguitar4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the first part is in D minor, second in D major.

the confusion must be due to the fact that João Gilberto recorded an acoustic verion of the song in Cm

Is this the hardest bossa nova song? I mean, there are a bunch of chord changes, even more than the usual in bossa
@bossanovaguitar3 жыл бұрын
Definitely among difficult songs, but there are also songs with 40 or even more different chords. Thanks!

what type of guitar are you playing on? I'm looking to get one that sounds similar!

It's Yairi CY140, cedar top, Ramirez style bracing, laminated jacaranda back/sides. I use carbon strings. Hope that helps.

what kind of nylon strings do you use?
@bossanovaguitar7 жыл бұрын
It's a mix of various strings. 1st string is Hannabach nylon from 800HT pack. 2nd and 3rd are carbon fibre Hannabach Goldin 725. Bass strings are a mixture of Hannabach 7287 HT and d'Addario Pro Arte EJ46. All strings are hard tension.
