@@Appaddict01 Which is why I think she would benefit greatly from Martha not being there anymore. If they had paced the team she wouldn't have been injured 10 days before the 2008 games! Those poor girls didn't get a day off in like 4 months with 2 trainings a day. And u wasn't allowed to hold back to prevent injury. Shawn, Nastia and Aly have all talked about the overtraining and how unnecessary it was to beat your athletes down before the competition even started.
@lisastiles14084 жыл бұрын
True. One thing that makes me more hopeful, though, is her previous peak was in that transition time that still often valued “lines” over strength and power. While I don’t recall if, or have any reason to think Chelsie ever had a full fledged eating disorder, too many young women were encouraged, directly and indirectly, to minimize fat and caloric intake and delay menses. There were A LOT more stress fractures back then. Just like REALLY getting steroids out of baseball saw season HR totals drop so much that you couldn’t attribute the bloated numbers to anything but the steroid era, the longevity and fewer stress fracture injuries among gymnasts like Simone Biles, and the entire American team, tells me there was definitely a connection between unhealthy eating and injuries back in the day.
@mrparts4 жыл бұрын
Lisa Stiles you have a point there. most injuries originate from lack of strength and stamina, which causes botched short landings that ruins ankles and knees, misalignment that damages shoulders and wrists etc. In that period of time we heard of so many chronic injuries
@JennaLeigh4 жыл бұрын
@@lisastiles1408 you hit the nail on the head. I was training during the 1992 season. (Obviously nowhere near elite, but I was obsessed with watching every moment I could and reading everything I could get my hands on). Kim Zmeskal struggled in Barcelona NOT because "she choked", but because she was malnourished and had stress fractures. These girls weren't allowed to eat often and were restricted WATER BREAKS. Bela had people escort them to the bathroom to make sure they weren't "sneaking water". WATER FOR GOD'S SAKE. The Karolyis got results, but through abuse, overtraining, and neglecting anything that didn't fit their agenda. Seeing how athletes like Raisman, Biles, Douglas, Kocian, and Hernandez are able to stay healthy and relevant well into their 20s is proof of the improvement in nutrition and their welfare. It certainly isn't perfect, but the USAG damn well better be on track to better treatment for them!!

Tony Cahill It’s so funny everyone assumes that they knew what Laurie Hernandezs’ capability was based on a very minuscule amount she has shown to the public. She also took 3 years off after not a single break in her life....do you know what the does to a girls body? They can actually hit puberty, she will never look the way she did in Rio and that’s okay. Why do we need to keep body shaming gymnasts because of such a stupid stigma. Laurie and Chelsie are both great contenders and let’s leave it at that.
@cyrielle_4 жыл бұрын
I think they should promote both because both Chellsie and Laurie are medal worthy gymnasts at their peak. However I'm a lot biased to Chellsie because her technique and basics look so much better. Chellsie looks incredibly fit on all her videos ( the ones with the skills and the fitness-only ones), she's always been a tremendous competitor and her landings are top-notch. She's one of the very few I "allow" to do double pike ( floor and beam), I generally find them ugly and the chest position is almost always very low when done off the beam. Also, a peak Chellsie would beat a peak Laurie on BB, because of the skill range. I'm just very excited to see where they can go.

I hope she's really serious about her so called "comeback." It'll be a waste of her talent if she's just messing around. She still got it!

Kim Williams there’s nothing wrong with just doing something because you enjoy it. It’s not a “waste” if she doesn’t compete lol
