I would cry of legit happiness if you made the olympic team. Honestly, I've always believed the only reason women don't compete in gymnastics into their late twenties and thirties is due to the abuse coaches put on the girls' teenage bodies. They overwork the girls and underfeed them, so injuries don't heal well. If Chellsie succeeds, it'll mean gymnastics longevity is a thing and could revolutionize how we treat women in the sport.

Agreed as a gymnast myself. My coach told me I was "fine" and had me keep going without me ever seeing a medical professional. Years later, I learned I had a broken foot with the bone displaced AND a herniated disc at L5-S1 touching my siatic nerve. I'm lucky to be walking considering I was training and tumbling through tears with that injury because coach said it was "fine". My body would be capable of SO much more if we had been given proper spotting to prevent more injuries and been seen when we got injured so the injury wasn't made worse.

1) Dea’s open double back is FIRE! 2) Dea being comfortable enough to say “nah I’m out for today” is SO POWERFUL AND AFFIRMING. Young gymnasts need to see this and know that they have autonomy and good coaches will listen and help keep them safe.

I am just convinced Chellsie is superhuman. I just don’t even understand how she is doing this! Not only physically but how consistent and dramatic her improvements are. She really does have a quality that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in another gymnast in watching gymnastics for 20 years. Really only Simone Biles I’d say has that same gym IQ I’ve seen in Chellsie. I am so in awe. And inspired quite honestly. Wow.

Your pretty dead on with this. I'm not sure if you got Nastia, or Jordan or Gabby back out in the gym they'd even progress quite like she has been. I'm not sure if this journey will lead to 2021, but man I am SO down to watch and continue to cheer her on the WHOLE WAY! I am living for this. As someone who left the sport around 2010 as a Division 1 collegiate gymnast her continued fitness and abilities are AWE INSPIRING!!! It's made me get my butt back into the gym(unfortunately not the gymnastics gym though ha! I'm retired retired lol~)

I think there’s a couple differences helping her compared to other ex gymnasts that attempted comebacks. 1) her training schedule is so much more relaxed and allows her body to actively recover from workout days. 2) she’s doing this for FUN! There’s zero pressure for her to make a routine or have it done by X date. 3) she’s doing this for herself at her own pace. There’s no set date for a complete routine or competition date. Would she like to? Probably. But you can tell she’s taking it day by day just seeing what she can come up with and what her body can handle. Most comeback attempts start as “ I want another run” but end up turning into “everyone expects me to do this”. There’s no expectations for her because we’re all on this ride with her together. We all are waiting to see where she goes.
@sethescope4 жыл бұрын
@@laurajohnson7044 And I think that shows her genius, which probably is something that comes with age and life experience. She knows that her body, like all bodies, has its limits, and she knows and is doing the work that reflects her knowledge that she needs to respect her limits if she wants this. She's committed to the long run, whether that means the Olympics or not, and that's what will make this comeback successful. She's not rushing, she's not pushing further than her body can handle. She's actually doing a lot less than she could do because doing the full amount she's capable of leads to injuries and/or misery. She's not even training everyday. She's doing a lot of things that upend the traditional training regime of athletes, and I love this for our queen.

I am so mad trainers made us quit 25+ years ago because they said it was too hard! We see now it was just a lie to keep only young girls in the gym and to weed out older gymnasts so the younger ones may have a chance! Now, I am all for the young ones getting their chance. That said, the cost to train gymnasts is sky high, making it rational for them to stay longer to get the optimal return on their investment!

The super cool thing about where the sport is nowadays is that a lot of the moves require STRENGTH , rather than being 'light' weight. Older, mature gymnasts, those in their 20s, 30s, have that advantage over younger adolescents. I truly believe we ate in the start of a whole new era, where the average age of an elite gymnast is trending upwards. I think it'll be the jorm for Olympic team members to be closer to mid 20s, rather than late teens. I think the sport will benefit greatly from this - with less pressure to peak before turning 18, there will be less injuries. Female gymnasts bodies will be stronger, and be able to last longer in the sport. Its awesome!!! 😊❤️

@@maurened5969 true, but if women's gymnastics became a sport for older women in their 20s they wouldn't have to push their young pre puberty bodies so hard, and less injuries. Not to mention, less incentive to eat less in order to weigh less and / or slow going thru puberty.

Younger gymnasts, those who may be in their late teens, really probably can't comprehend the amount of fear that needs to be overcome when making a comeback / return to the sport after several years off. Shaun Johnson described it best, how as a 14, 15 year old, she had no real fear - she had been doing increasingly difficult skills for over a decade, so was used to it. But behind older, she looks back, sees what she rid, and feels the fear now, after all these years. Heck, even doing a cartwheel on the beam, much less a front flip (blind landing ) takes a lot of courage

I bet she could do a second vault if she wanted to. Real contender at vault finals

I loved the music of the first three and a half minutes! It captured the wonder I feel watching your journey and progression and put it to song. I'm not a gymnast, but also wanted to let you know that you inspire me to get out there and get back to running.

I’m 22 and have always wanted to learn how to do a back handspring but thought I was too old but after covid is over I’m going to learn how to do a backhand spring because Chellsie inspired me. 🤣

I just love watching these videos. Chellsie, you are so inspirational. Although you are training at a level that I will never be able to reach (in any sport), you sharing your progress is motivating me to change in my own way. I thank you for that. And I just love your work ethic and attention to detail - toes pointed, just beautiful form. And your switch leap! Wow!
