7. See success in progress rather than perfection. I related to everything you talked about. But number 7 is something I have not tried and think will help me change! I am ALWAYS dieting and ALWAYS failing. I fluctuate between 129 - 137 lbs (am 5'5") struggling to be slender and never getting there. My constant goal is to be a lean 124 lbs. I was there once, in 2016, but can't seem to make it back. I repeatedly make all the same mistakes you talked about in this video. I will be checking out your channel to see what kind of foods I could eat to satisfy my cravings in a healthful way. Thank!

Delayed gratification, adding in more veggies, and cutting out oil from cooking have helped me lose about 7 lbs so far in about 1.5 months. Thank you for your help! Your videos are a lifesaver to me.

The sequence of habits (mindless auto-pilot behaviors): 1. Que / Trigger. 2. Craving. 3. Response. 4. Reward (dopamine hit). Tips to stop binging by interrupting that sequence: 1. Start to eat more food. I.E. don't "starve" yourself so you end up getting really hungry later and binge. 2. Start eating the right kinds of foods - foods with a high satiety index (foods that make you feel full and satisfied with smaller amounts). Potatoes are great for this. 3. Clean up your environment. Make it harder to get the food you are craving so you create a barrier to completing the sequence. 4. Work with your cravings, not against them. I.E. give in to binging, but on low-calorie healthy foods instead of high-calorie junk food. 5. Use delayed gratification. Like telling yourself you'll allow yourself to eat what you're craving, but later. 6. Use failure as an opportunity to learn rather than an excuse to punish yourself (which only makes you feel worse and then more likely to binge on the comfort food). Become less passionate about setbacks and practice self-compassion. 7. See success in progress and celebrate all the wins. Improvement - not perfection!

Chelsea, I want to thank you so much for this content, none of the other WFPB influencers actively put content out to help with the reality of how to stay consistent, cravings and binging. It is so valuable and helpful. I have watched this video several times. I have had a clean environment for years but after listening to some of your videos and podcasts I have started really prioritising always having ENOUGH and variety of the right food at home to help with cravings. I have previously let triggers get the better of me and driven to the store for 'bad food'. I am going to try 'delayed gratification' that you discuss. Thanks for everything, would you consider doing a live Q&A?

My take away: "If I only eat 1-2 cookies instead of 10, it's a win." Over time, I have let my lack of willpower get the best of me and binge eat too much junk food. I'm going to use this. Even if I portion out something, it's better than sitting down with the box or bag and not having a clue how much you have eaten. Thx, Chelsea!

I struggled for decades, from age 12 to 54, until 4 years ago I became WFPB and I eat lots of fruit, veggies, mushrooms, Kabocha squashes, salads, soups, some (sweet) potatoes, legumes and tofu, almost no avocado, nuts and seeds. I am petite and want to remain slim. I use Chef AJ's calorie density chart, easy to follow and stick to. You can and will overcome bingeing if you eat WFPB and fill your stomach with nutritious food.

All your info was great, Chelsea! For me, the best incite was when you said in Point 6, I think, that bingeing on hi-cal junk food WILL NOT leave you feeling NOURISHED! So many times after binge eating, I have asked myself, "Why did you eat that? You need to eat better, nourishing food." I have craved something healthy, the whole time kicking myself for the junk binge. Now I can tell myself, "you will not feel nourished if you eat that junk. Eat something healthy!" Thanks so much for all you do.

I already feel like this is the only system that will work!!!! Last night I made myself a 500-calorie HATS veg bowl with brown rice and a buttload of veggies and some sweet chilli sauce and omg, I was SO STUFFED, SO SATISFIED. This is a diet that I can actually adhere to!! And I love how Chelsea doesn't BS with people. She actually acknowledges the scientific fact that calorie deficit IS NEEDED to achieve weight loss! All this BS about eating as much as you want as long as it's healthy is NOT helping people!!! I can't wait to see the amazing results that I know I'll get with the HATS method!! Thank you so much xxx

This is absolutely amazing, Chelsea. This is so helpful coming from a binge eater who gets dopamine highs. I have been getting better over time with this, just eating healthier. Good for you for getting over your binge eating.. I hope to get there someday using some of your steps. Your content is so helpful. I was wondering why I wasn't losing weight when as you made clear, I am binging mostly on the weekends and just eating way too many calories so of course I wasn't losing even if I ate better during the week. I like step 4, working with your cravings.. if you are eating the right foods, you can eat more and not get a ton of calories. This is so helpful! More content like this would be great, Chelsea. Love your haircut!

I used to restrict on weekdays and binge the whole weekend for the longest time. Made me gain 15kg over the span of a year. Since i started studying nutrition and basically eat the exact way you‘re recommending here, I only feel the need to binge the day before my period starts and tbh… i just let myself have these two huge bowls of cereal and move on to the next binge-free month :)

thanks for posting this!! I have been really really down and bad with bingeing these past 6 months. When I first started watching your vids in 2022, I was down to 135 lbs. Now I am weighing in at 196 and I can't stop binge eating every single night to put myself to sleep. I experienced some really awful forced s*xual trauma and got r*ped lol but it has left me feeling like the food is the only thing that comforts me and makes me feel safe in my body. Sorry I know it's dark to share but I think a lot of people who suffer from binge eating have been s*xually abused because it's a common reaction to gain weight after that happening. I think there is a really big emotional component so therapy and medication can also be very helpful.

I had similar experiences so big hugs and best wishes to you. I call it discomfort eating because it really doesn't help, it makes you feel worse and more ashamed. What happened was not your fault. The best revenge is to be kind to yourself by eating healthy food, losing weight, looking good in clothes. People will respect you more too if you look good. Hold your head high, fake it till you feel it, I used to go out for a walk and smile, I was faking it but now it's become me, I am really happy for the little things in life, whether it's my cat, a bird singing or having lived another day without bingeing. Treat yourself in other ways, not with food. Don't let evil people ruin your life, they are the sad, pathetic ones. Find something to be grateful for every day. Share the junk food you have left with neighbours, wildlife etc. and fill your fridge/kitchen with healthy food. I am rooting for you and sending you lots of love. Chef AJ, Dr McDougall's starch solution, pcrm are great YT channels that will guide you through your WFPB health journey. Dr Lisle is also great. Just fill your tummy with healthy food, there will be no room for cravings and bingeing. DO NOT BRING JUNK INTO THE HOUSE! If you don't buy it, you can't eat it. Always have healthy meals/food/ingredients READY to eat. Stick to simple meals and learn to make them from scratch. Batch-cook several portions to last you for a few days.

Love this channel. The book Hunger Habit changed my life in tandem with emdr therapy . While therapy is for something non-food related, I’d say that it IS linked because my relationship with eating/not eating has been a coping mechanism that hasn’t served me well. There is usually an underlying cause to eating behaviors that are not nurturing or nourishing-good therapy can help unfold, process and heal this. Therapy is expensive. A book is usually within most people’s budget. Follow the book and instructions, be kind and patient with yourself. I remind myself this isn’t the next 2 -8 weeks of my life, it’s the rest of my life…it’s worth building a solid and true foundation that aligns with my genuine nature.

Filling up with lower calorie density but very nutritious and satisfying food is definitely essential to prevent cravings and bingeing. No small portions or small plates for me (plates?!! i only use big family-size salad bowls). I am a fast eater and still working on more mindful eating. So one thing that has helped me is using dessert-size spoons instead of big soup spoons when I eat my soup, stews, etc.

I too have noticed how so many weight loss coaches, etc. keep mentioning mindset. When you're hungry, mindset goes out of the window, you just think about the richest food. Always have delicious WFPB meals/ingredients READY for you to eat, salads, stews, soups, fruit salads, mushrooms, tins of beans, etc. Definitely no ultra-processed junk/trigger food in the house, just don't buy or order it in, don't go to a cafe enquiring if they have vegan cake, of course they all do by now, so stay away from these things and over time you won't think about them as food or desirable, you will actually feel sad for vegans who eat them, thinking these foods are healthy and good for them, they will become fat vegans.

actually... I don't usually watch videos like this... but I found this hitting some things I do. so, today I made a point to eat more than I usually do, earlier in the day,, making meals out of my left over vegetables, tofu, beans - whatever I had available, and.. shock. I wasn't hungry tonight. I felt satisfied much earlier. so, I think i will keep trying this.

When I was eating better, I would eats lots, but if I got hungry in the evening, I would eat a bowl of rice (kept cooked rice in the fridge). I still would weigh myself in the morning and lose weight. It wasn't ideal and I didn't always do it, just when I was feeling hungry and thinking I wouldn't be able to sleep. Now, stress is so bad I'm trying to get back to healthy eating.
@luluandmeow

I sympathise because my stress levels are very high too, but remember that bingeing will make you feel even more stressed and unable to control what happens to you. Being in control of your food, weight, shape, and looking your best in clothes will help you deal with things. You will be more confident and walk with your head high because eating healthily is a HUGE achievement, so get back to it and be kind to yourself, you'll do it! Just stop buying unhealthy food and start now, not tomorrow, not next Monday, start now.

Thank you Chelsea, i'm swept away by your knowledge every time. I've implemented celebrating mini successes, small steps big results, no oil cooking, i'm up to about 800grams of veggies a day, i aim for 500cal meals and having a few core recipes available at all times. Oh and i stopped buying ebooks 😅. Anyway still a long way to go, i really appreciate your channel.

Thanks for this! As an all or nothing person, focusing on improvements over perfection has been helpful. I find keeping the foods I habitually overeat on out of the house is key. Also having a clean an organized pantry/fridge tends to quiet the food chatter. Still struggle with enjoying “treats” as they seem to trigger bingeing behavior😮

I began to gain weight after two things happened. I was hospitalized with covid and put on massive doses of prednisone, which knocked my diabetes totally out of control, and I had a stomach surgery to reroute my digestive system because I was aspirating bile, which was destroying my already compromised lungs. I was at a perfect weight for me and had been for 9 years. And now I'm being told that, due to my stomach, I need more protein. I struggle to get enough in my meals, because I absolutely love veggies and fruits and not much else. I don't know how to get this under control and can't afford a coach due to so many medical issues. I have not gained back to my highest weight, but I'm getting close to the halfway point. I don't want to buy any more clothes. I want to fit back into what I already have. I don't even know where to begin.

I get weak for FREE food at work. There are always bagels, cake, cookies or candy depending on the holiday. It’s free, it’s set out for the taking and I can’t help but grab the FREE processed food. I can’t see the animal in that cupcake. I deserve FREE food too. I struggle with this behavior. I’ll bring all my good plant based foods and then grab the naughties instead of my planned plant meals. 😔
