Dear students At 24:11 to 27:35 min, correct the hybridization in XeO3 and XeO2F2 and XeOF4 to sp3, sp3d and sp3d2. The configuration should also be corrected. By mistake, the configuration was copied from that of the previous molecule that is SO3. The number of dpi-ppi bond is correct. Ma'am can d orbital form sigma bond because sigma bonds only formed by s-s,s-p,and p-p but in xeof4 you've shown that sigma bond is formed by d orbital please explain thank you

yes d orbital can form sigma bond. molecular orbital theory of transition metal complexes (organometallic compounds) explains this. the symmetry of d orbital should match with the overlapping molecular orbitals or ligand group orbitals. This cna be clear from MOT or LFT of transition metal complexes
