Hey i really liked your video! My brother in-law is a Chemical engineer in Chicago Illinois he's currently a process engineer and had been a P.E for about a year now but had been a engineer for 8+ years. He's looking for move to Dallas-Fort Worth Texas where our family currently is. Do you have any recommendations on where to look? He's severely underpaid and deserved better!

Hello, Chemical engineering student in Chicago here, I wish your brother in law best of luck, here’s what I know: Generally, chemical engineering is very broad, so depending on the field you go in it really affects your pay in chemical engineering, more than the average degree. Meaning food processing is generally on the low side, and petroleum is generally on the high side. If your brother in law is young, he expects a Lower salary as most engineering careers focus on experience as much if not more than degree. I do recommend Texas cuz they do pay more. Even I am planning to move there once graduated. If your brother in law is not willing to sell his soul to the devil and do petroleum (as many of us do.. it’s very enticing.) I know that Texas does pay a lot more even process engineering. The average salary there is 92k while here is abt 62. If he’s looking for a lot of money tho, chemical engineering should be viewed as a tool, not a career in my opinion. It must be used to create or design a process which he can call his own (owning a business). Chemical engineers excel at that cuz they know how to design the most efficient process possible. OR, chemical engineers in Saudi Arabia and the gulf make a starting salary of 120 to 150k… so if he is planning on doing petroleum I heavily recommend it.
