Ugh this song hits close. Being abused instead of loved at a young age and then being isolated in your adult years because you formed a personality disorder from said abuse is an extremely traumatic and lonely position to be in. Nobody WANTS to be seen as a ticking timebomb, nobody WANTS to anger and disappoint the ones they love because they are struggling with mental illness, but sometimes trauma makes you grow up into someone you don't love. And the worst part is you cant help but hate yourself for it.

DUDE?? "THIS IS NO PLACE OF HONOR" is SUCH a cool detail, my jaw dropped when i realized the reference.... for those who don't know, that is a line from proposed warnings about radiation in nuclear waste dumps. they're intended to warn future generations to not go there. "this is no place of honor" is specifically supposed to say "this isn't blocked off because it's a holy or religious place, it's blocked off because this is BAD and will KILL YOU." weevildoing u are a genius . i love this series so much

Ive seen other people dissect the songs meanings and how that this song is probably in part about chemical girls experiences with being autistic but Ive seen few point out how this song plays on meltdowns by making her well...a nuclear powerplant symbolically. Like how she's just about ready to have a full on meltdown, shes just waiting for something to set her over the edge

Glad someone else is seeing it as autistic because we were hoping for one we could relate to. Being autistic with hypersensitivity and hyperempathy can be nasty, we relate because too often we find ourselves in a feedback loop of feeling horrible because we are SO hyperaware of how our volatile emotions feed into others, which just makes them worse and so easy to spiral into a breakdown. We’re supposed to be 20 yet all too often feel like a little kid terrified to express ourselves because it could either lead into us breaking down or someone else breaking down and us doing the same because we were the catalyst. It’s all so messy. Have a coping mechanism in being plural ( emotional blocks, some getting often silently angry over being self deprecating to help cope a way that’s ironically less destructive ) but it’s not always a very reliable one

i think the mentions of radioactive material and radiation poisoning is a wonderful metaphor for suffering with a cluster B disorder. i don't have a cluster B disorder but this song made me go on like a 3 hour research on them but take all i say with a grain of salt bc im not a professional At least based on my knowledge, cluster B disorders- bpd, npd, aspd, etc are typically caused by child abuse &/or neglect in childhood. Radiation poisoning is when a person or animal is exposed to a large doses of ionizing radiation, either as a single large exposure (acute) or repeated short exposures (chronic). The "radiation poisoning" this character endured was trauma, and cluster B disorders- that most often come as a result of childhood trauma and abuse- is very often associated with the abusers themselves. These types of disorders makes it incredibly easy to continue the cycle of trauma and abuse, it makes the character feel like they're spreading the radiation they came into contact with. In a world where cluster B disorders in particular are demonized, it makes you feel like you're evil at your very core- that no matter what you do, you'll ALWAYS perpetuate the cycle of abuse. *So what's the point in trying to get better if you're inherently a bad person to your very core?*

AUHHH I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH... I love how the verses are more intense and feature teto rapping in much more hard of a tone, while the chorus is a lot more melodic and relatively composed...it gives off the impression of calming down after an explosive argument and realizing the gravity of the things you've said that you know you can't take back. And I think it's beautiful how it's the chorus that focuses on the larger consequences of chemical girls anger problems, the realities of not being able to form stable relationships if you don't even have a stable sense of self. And it feels like, as a way to cope, she leans into the way other people may have marked her as a "dangerous" individual, because maybe that's the closest thing she's ever going to get to a stable self-image. And maybe it's just easier to think of herself as inherently broken or evil or bad, because recovery takes so much more work and misery is comfortable... While I can't directly relate to leaning into anger as a trauma response, I deeply resonated with chemical girl in a different way. Like,, being a system and having alters dedicated to holding memories of abuse, and them feeling as though they're consolidations of the worst things to have happened to them, and, in a way, they're not wrong. Feeling as though you exist of your suffering, that there's nothing good to you, that you were not made for happiness. and the bitterness that that feeling produces is something I really connected with. That's what I really like about TPTM, and the art you produce in general! In the end, I feel like TPTM is about the pursuit of happiness, of love and of joy, which is the core of what it means to be human ❤❤

I love how while it focuses on the fact that their melting down the fact they used a radiation core specifically is interesting. Why? Because a radioactive core is used to power things! It can be used to power things for a long time, and can be a really good power source. It reminds me of autism because just like with radiation they always focus on the meltdown to prove it’s bad. When you shouldn’t forget about the good aspects like with autism the creativity and passion and with radiation its effectiveness as a power source.

This is crimy 6 days before it releases I am guessing that she is about neurodivergent (mainly autistic) trauma because of how she's covering her ears (sensory issues 😢) and that when Towne was asked on tumblr which girl would collect anime figures they said that the next girl probably would Crimy 4 days until release I've noticed that her pigtails kinda look like dna spirals and that the name "chemical girl" could refer to how your brain is controlled by chemicals which, looping this back to her being neurodivergent trauma, could refer to how neurodiversities like autism and adhd are inherent parts of your dna and how your brain functions (ex: people with autism have different brain wave patterns then people without autism) I will update when song drops 🫡 The song has dropped!! So I was kinda right though I didn't expect the anger aspect but it honestly still fits sm!! Just the instrumental alone does an amazing job at encapsulating the feeling of that overwhelming anger that comes with tism and cluster Bs (bpd in my case) not to mention using a nuclear breakdown as a metaphor for a lack of emotional regulation is genius. I love how she actively acknowledges that she has harmed people but feeling extremely guilty afterwards therefore leading her to feel that she has no control over herself and is someone to be avoided, this song hits very close to home since my main response to both overstimulation and splitting (specifically when I see someone as awful) is almost always anger Basically I love chemical girl very much

This isnt really a theory, more of a personal thing. ive been dealing with something called "Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder" basically to sum it up, "anger issues along with wacky mood." personally im still having trouble trying to know how to deal with it, its most commonly found in kids, making it more or less ignored. im saying this cause, honestly I relate to this song pretty hard, looking at everyone around me who are doing basic things, living their lives while im rotting, I feel hatred towards them all, i hate them all but its all my fault. I'm the one who made this happen, doing nothing is my fault yet I cant help but be furious they are happier then me. when teto says "Everyone who loved me forgot who I was" its reminded me how my family doesnt know who I am anymore, my mom is scared of me. they see me like a monster for how I can act. Theres practically nothing I can do, at least thats how I feel. I also tend to spill things I probably shouldnt, like right now! either way this song is amazing and I love all of your songs!

This is maybe a silly question but is “this is no place of honor” a reference to THERES NOTHING HERE WORTH DYING FOR by Black Dresses? Amazing as always, Towne!!!!! EDIT: Never mind, both are a reference to long term nuclear waste warning messages, specifically a 1993 report from Sandia National Laboratory on what nuclear waste architecture should communicate non verbally. I didn’t think of the connection since I knew that THERES NOTHING HERE WORTH DYING FOR was inspired by a warning sign telling cavers that their lives aren’t worth the glory of dangerous cave sections, my bad lol. uhhh shoutout to Weevil for cluster b gunpla fan cluster b gunpla fan just like Suletta Mercury fr 👍

it's a reference to a message conceptualized by Sandia National Laboratories in the case of anyone in the future finds a nuclear waste site. the full version is as follows; " This place is a message... and part of a system of messages... pay attention to it! Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture. This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here. What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger. The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us. The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours. The danger is to the body, and it can kill. The form of the danger is an emanation of energy. The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited."

It’s restraining her movement, much like ABA therapists do (I haven’t done ABA but hoo boy they sound horrible). Such a good song!!

i need to comment more on your songs, but this is such a good depiction of how neurodivergency (? i think that'd be the right term i'm not sure) makes it hard to fit in with people no matter what you do. the pushing away, the mood swings, how autistic people commonly try to mimic other people's phrases or whatever... and it's tied to the instrumental itself - the way the chorus switches from a industrial heavy, fast beat to a calmer one. but the anger is not gone, you're just trying to keep yourself calm while you push people away in order not to upset them further by your unrelated anger. also the inclusion "this is no place of honor", a phrase used for nuclear waste warning messages... it's good. last thing is that the lyrics after the first chorus are REALLY good and flow well. this is a word wall but i really enjoy your music. thank you for everything
