If only there was something to spray to keep the rain away like there is to kill weeds.
Now we will be able to find the vegetables all season long. No Jungle! But spraying really kills that organic mood. Guess we won't die.

Jacob, what a beautiful vegetable plot! If you make a round hole in the bottom of a plastic cup then unscrew spray nozzle and fit on screw nozzle back you now have a concentrated spray pattern, it works well in breezy or light wind. You always do a terrific job!

I do a lot of backpack praying in my beans to touch-up breakthrough and situations where they just keep on germinating. Bought myself a really nice harness this year to put the sprayer tank takes the pressure off my shoulders made the job much more fun. Everything looks good there Jacob thanks for sharing.

The box shield is genius! Ideas like that makes life so much easier! Nice work!. Beautiful garden!. You guys certianly know what your doing! BTW, I've sprayed thousands of gallons of Roundup. Fence rows, field edges, ditch banks. You name it. That cancer stuff is lawyer's fabrication!! They should be working in a garden some where!! My 2 cents!!

Yeah the old man bought one of them off Fleabay for his garden he had me plant... then he had me use it. Basically a long piece of 1 inch PVC for "tank" with a 45 degree elbow on the end, with another capped piece of 1 inch PVC connected to it, holes drilled through it, and wrapped with a sponge covered by some sort of meshed netting... wipe the weeds, smear it on, dead weeds, end of story. Use a 33% Roundup solution (1 gallon RU 2 gallons water) and wipe away. We used a "Spiedel weed wiper" mounted on the front of our cultivator tractors to get in-row weeds like johnsongrass and pigweeds that stuck up above the crop as we were cultivating-- fried them to a crisp! Worked great! OL J R:)

I'm not going to say anything about how you should kill weeds my grandfather use kill by using a two 55 gallon tank then he had a platform on his H and he would run the pump off of the PTO and there was two small swing chains to hold it in place but it doesn't matter how you kill weeds whether it's by tractor or walking by walking it might be slower but it does the job my grandfather did both because I worked for my grandfather for every since high school up until he passed away

WAY back in the 40's and 50's they had something called "oiling shoes" which were basically a spray nozzle on a skid that slid on the ground.... they sprayed what was basically called "crop oil" or a low-grade kerosene out of the nozzles to kill weeds! This of course was back when fuel for the tractor was only 8 cents a gallon for gasoline LOL:) "Crop oil" now is a refined vegetable oil used for an "adjuvant", mixed with the spray (it's premixed with an emulsifier in the jug at the factory so it will disperse in spray water) that absorbs the chemical you mix into the tank and then carries it to the target plants when sprayed... as the water evaporates off the leaves, the crop oil carries the chemicals down into the leaf tissues to get the chemicals into the plants better to kill them. Grandpa's old "oiling shoes" were hanging on the wall of the old lean-to barn my brother had torn down recently... Later! OL J R:)

So it’s safe to spray Round Up between the rows to kill weeds so long as no overspray gets on the vegetables/plants you wish to keep. I’ve read to spray when it’s sunny to get maximum benefit as well.👍🏽👨‍🌾👍🏽

Nice! Sure beats a hoe! LOL:) I like the shielded sprayer... woudn't be too hard to build one like that, little cart with bicycle tires to carry it, couple of longer shields (taper the ends and roll them over or something so they'll lift lower leaves and keep them out of the way and rig it up with a couple nozzles fed by either a hand pump (lever pump) backpack sprayer, or an electric sprayer. If the rows vary in width, use a single nozzle and single shield with the nozzle pointed more toward the shield, and double back in the same pass. With two nozzles and two shields though should be able to spray each middle in turn without stopping and without doubling up and kill everything between the shields. As for the anti-Roundup nutcases, farmers have been using that stuff for about 50 years, and haven't been dropping like flies so it couldn't be THAT bad. Basically EVERYTHING causes cancer in SOMEBODY-- every one of us has *slightly* different genetics and body chemistry, some people will get cancer from something that will never bother another person-- my great aunt dipped snuff every day of her life and lived well into her 90's, never had a problem, where some people start dipping and get mouth cancer before they're 25. Go figure. I took my Dad to cancer treatments and it was eye opening sitting in the waiting room-- young, old, fat, thin, healthy, unhealthy... doesn't matter you see every type and kind of person in there waiting to see the docs or get treatments... I mean yeah smoking and doing other stupid stuff will probably land you there a lot faster, but still, thinking you'll just "avoid it all" and run 5 miles a day and never get sick or die from cancer is just a fallacy... ANYTHING can get you if you're genetically or body chemistry predisposed to it... Later! OL J R: )

Problem is when you turn the soil under, new soil gets turned up on top and when the sunlight hits the weed seeds in it, they sprout... Weed seeds can lay dormant for DECADES and one flash of sunlight is enough to activate them! Later! OL J R :)
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 2 жыл бұрын
@@christinamoneyhan5688 Not what he's talking about... weeds and plants in the environment produce seeds, usually MANY seeds, thousands of seeds, and over the millennia they've built up in the soil. Every time you turn the soil over, you bring new weed seeds to the surface-- they might have been down in the soil from last year, or 100 years ago. Some weed seeds can remain "dormant" in the soil for DECADES and STILL be viable... they only need a FLASH of sunlight to activate them, and they can germinate and grow producing a new weed plant. Some seeds have hard coatings that can only be activated by breaking it down by going through a fire, or by laying in the soil and microbes and fungi slowly breaking down the hard seed coat until they can absorb moisture, germinate, and sprout a new weed. This accumulation of weed seeds in the soil is called a 'seed bank', and is what we farmers are referring to, not that numbskulled waste of money in Iceland or wherever... LOL:) OL J R :)
