I just mulched an existing bed in my parents' Crowne Zoysia yard. I scalped the grass in the bed first, then put two layers of cardboard down and about 3-4 inches of mulch, and dug a 6 inch straight edge around the perimeter to hopefully keep those Zoysia rhizomes from invading. I am worried the grass will come up through the plants that were already in the bed since I had to leave a gap in the mulch around the base of each one, but I am hoping I can keep it under control so my parents can enjoy it for years to come! We also have really prolific nutsedge in our area so I'm praying the cardboard and mulch will be able to smother enough of it so I can manage it. Any pointers are welcome! Also, great video!

@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Sounds a little like whining though, but that's ok. It helps me and others. Some people can't help themselves when a video doesn't meet their needs. Instead of moving onto one that does, they want to blame the creator instead of taking the blame at being bad at searching for the type of content that suits them best. As a matter of fact, you don't need a video at all to use this product successfully. I never watched one. Instead, you could just read the manufacture's label and kill the weeds without KZbin's help at all like I did. But some people, obviously not you, are visual learners and need someone to spell things out like I have here to be confident enough to use a product like this. That's who this video is for and who I'm trying to help. People who are hesitant to use weed killers just need someone to simplify it for them without having to decipher what the bottle says, as that can sometimes be confusing for folks. Again, thanks for watching. No doubt the people who fit your description and not the ones I've described will bow down to you for your comment. You are their knight in shining armor that has saved 8:45 of their lives. Well done! 👏👏

What if you have hedges/bushes in those mulched areas that you don't want to kill?
@BudgetLawns8 ай бұрын
Just use caution not to get it on the leaves of desirable plants and you'll be ok. Thanks for watching.

Question? I agree totally but what if you want to plant 🪴 something how long do you wait to ensure the herbicide doesn’t kill whatever plant?
@BudgetLawns9 ай бұрын
I’d wait at least 2 or 3 weeks. The product is foliar so it doesn’t really work unless it gets on a plant’s leaves. The label will have guidelines for this as well. Thanks for watching.

If Weed & Grass killer is used, are you able to plant flowers in the bed afterwards? Thanks!!!!
@BudgetLawns4 ай бұрын
Yes, I have since planted 38 plants in a portion of this mulch and haven't changed my process. I do pick most weeds to begin with, but will use a herbicide on the most stubborn. I just make sure to be careful around plants and make sure I don't get overspray on them. Thanks for watching.

Will it kill future planted flowers or current flowers in mulch

If it gets on them, yes. Spray with caution around desirable plants. Thanks for watching.

Great video. I have HUGE perennial beds that I plan to simplify. As much as I love all the flowers, I'm not able to keep up with it all due to health problems. I plan to keep the many different kinds of ground cover. You said that you're planning to cover the mulch with ground cover. How do you prevent grass growing in ground cover? thank you in advance.
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Maintaining the weed and grass free mulch for some time is a start. To make sure youre planting the plants without anything else trying to invade. After that, the heavy ground cover will do its job to crowd everything else out from coming in. That’s the goal at least. Hope this helps. Thanks again.

Have any recommendations on pet safe weed killed products or remedies? Always have our cats outside. Thanks!
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
I’ve got a dog and use these. I keep her off the lawn for at least 24 hours. Most products are pet safe after dry. Make sure to read the label. Thanks for watching.

Can you spray this down on a new bed before adding plants? Or will it harm newly planted shrubs and trees?
@BudgetLawns8 ай бұрын
I would wait at least 2 or 3 weeks before planting after spraying. Thanks for watching.

At the point where everything is clear and the mulch is down, wouldn't just hand pulling those weeds and Bermuda be about the same work without the chemicals?
@BudgetLawns5 ай бұрын
I hand pull almost everything. I only spray the stubborn ones that just won’t go away.

There any nontoxic options in herbicides?
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Not any real effective ones that I know of. Most don't kill the root and are only surface level.

If you've got plants in the ground, you'll want to go crazy picking by hand. If not, spray is much as possible to get back to square one. May take a round or two. Hard work, but possible. Thanks for watching.

Well, this was for me. I have a rock area by my drive way and when the weeds come up I pull them. If I can get them before they get un slightly I think I will go this route instead. Thanks Trevor 😊
