Chemin D'Antony - The Least Used Paris RER Station

Time for another adventure from Paris! This time I caught up with local Yohann, as I asked him "What is the least used RER station in Paris?" and we went for a trip ... to Chemin D'Antony!
There are five RER (Réseau Express Régional /Regional Express Network ) lines in Paris, think of it like Crossrail / Purple train, only done properly ... and many years before London got in on the act!
Yohann's Le Ferrovipathte Channel is here: / leferrovipathe

The main reason why Chemin d'Antony is so little patronized is because it only has a 2 tph frequency at the moment. There are ongoing works to build flying junctions at Massy and Choisy-le-Roi and thus increase capacity on the line. Currently TGVs bypassing Paris prevent more RER services from being extended from Pont de Rungis to Massy. There is also a long term proposal to build a separated southern bypass for TGV trains that would serve Orly airport, but it's unlikely to happen due to its cost.

Yes! But why at the end did he reply "Merci a vous aussi"? If they're mates, why not "toi"?
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG Жыл бұрын
@@georgebattrick2365Probably because Geoff said "merci monsieur", which is "thank you sir" and Yohann answered with the formal "vous" automatically, as an autopilot driven response. The level of address, formal or familiar, is often triggered by the sentence you reply to, especially in cases of stress like being on camera, instead of the level of familiarity you have with the person you're talking to.

Bulleid built a double deck electric unit, the 4DD, which went into service in 1949, but our restricted gauge meant that delays with loading/unloading rather negated the extra passenger advantage! However, it was only scrapped in 1971, but rarely ran: I never saw it and used to spend time at Waterloo, Charing Cross and London Bridge when young. There are photos on the web.

@@drdewott9154 actually no. The lines on tire were built as standard subways, in the 1960s/70s they "upgraded" them to tires... Nothing is decided yet, but one of the possible plans that is being debated here is to transform Orlyval into metro line 19 after the line 14 extension to Orly Airport is completed. It would keep its current rolling stock but it would get integrated into the normal fare system and additional stations would be built across its route (Chemin d’Antony would be one of them) to transform it to a small local metro line. This is the plan that the towns along the line want to see implemented, but in the end, it’s the region that will decide (the biggest obstacle being the classic “lack of money”)

Wow neat stuff. Btw if you ever come to Copenhagen and wanna do a least used station on our S train system, I'm 99% sure that the least used station with a regular service is Kildedal, also on a line named the "C". As for least used without a regular service, there's Høvelte on the "A" line which isn't even on the route map, only has a wooden platform in the northbound direction, and only has a few trains a day stopping there because it serves a military base and is used by troop personnel to commute to duty. For the return trip they take the night bus the other way.

In Britain two four-car EMU double deckers were trialed just after World War Two on the Charing X - North Kent line, which was very congested. UK loading gauges were smaller than in Continental Europe, so seating was very cramped, staggered between levels with poor ventilation. Loading and unloading crowded trains was very slow. One can imagine mass outbreaks of claustrophobia and heatstroke. The experimental units were kept on for a while, but the principle has been discarded for Britain.
