Tune in to view a presentation given by Dr. Marilyn Black and Dr. Debra Harris for the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Environmental Stewardship, Utilities and Sustainability Community in October 2022.
Facility managers are charged with supporting healthy and productive indoor environments for building occupants. The air quality in these spaces can be affected by construction and operational processes including ventilation and cleaning. With the flux of tenants and occupants, there is a constant flow of materials in and out of a facility and personal sensitivities to chemical and environmental hazards vary among occupants. In this session, you will learn about today's chemicals (and other pollutants) of concern to occupants- like PFAS, phthalates, formaldehyde, pesticides, antimicrobials, molds, viruses and even PM 2.5, their sources and how you can reduce their presence through proper material selection, space planning, cleaning, ventilation, and simple monitoring. Understanding how real-world conditions will impact the presence of these pollutants in a space is essential to crafting your own management and control plans. Toolkits and mitigation strategies will be shared with you to put into practice knowledge gained.
