Chemistry experiment 57 - Green borate flame

Boric acid reacts with methanol in the presence of sulfuric acid, forming an inorganic ester known as trimethyl borate. This is a flammable compound and can be easily ignited. A beautiful green flame is observed during the combustion.

So, if the green color is created by boron compounds, then would burning something like borax do a similar thing?

Yes , it will be the same green color and works quite well if you just dissolve the borax in methanol .
