I think the world needs a color study using this technique. This one was blue & green; now we need red & orange, yellow & green, blue & purple, etc. Each primary color with each of its two secondary colors.

You was talking about "reverse glazing" I think idk lol. Anyways, I did some speckles on some bulky yarn and didn't like the way it turned out, so I drop it in some Caribbean blue, and it turned out beautiful. U could see the litter shades of blue speckles and the neon green speckles came through it was just ahhhhh.... Then I added some dry neon green over it a few spots to give it a little more pop. Idk if that qualifies as glazing or reverse glazing but I thought I'd share.

This is gorgeous, then again, I always love me some cool tones! Would be neat to see a video where your yarn mop is your 'opposite order' skein. I am always intrigued by the way things turn out when the order of operations isn't the norm :-)

Oooooo - you mean yarn mop on top of glazed yarn?

I used this video as a tutorial; I dyed some yarn for friends but it came out a little brighter than one friend might've wanted, so I overdyed with some black and it came out STUNNING! Now I need to fight off the urge to glaze the rest of the yarn. 🤣Thank you!

I have yarn I bought from Small Fish Yarns (Canadian Dyer) which looks a lot like what you did here. When I got it I thought "Wow, how did she do that, it looks amazing" and, well, I think now I know! LOL Thank you for this video, it was so interesting.

Lovely color! Have you thought about doing an episode with BOTH ways to glaze to the see the differences side-by-side?
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Have I thought about it? Yes! It would be a bit more challenging to set up because to dye the same thing before and after glazing might be challenging. :D

OMG Rebecca you outdid yourself this time! Thankyou so so much! Your top matches the yarn, did you notice? I think I may have to get the other 2 so I'll have all 3 and make something spectacular for my Birthday! Thanks again xo

Maybe it could work to glaze with your favourite Cabernet!

I'm not sure if that strikes enough, but I do have another video in the works glazing with something that isn't navy. ;0)
@desireeross96512 жыл бұрын
I dyed this today but used my variegated colours first and then added the navy. I dyed a Bfl silk blend
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I think that doing that order would be my preference, but it was fun to adjust the amount of color when the navy was already there! :D

Gorgeous! And I don't know if you planned it, but that's a great colorway for this month's dyealong (with the peacock feathers).
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I didn't exactly plan it, although this yarn did want me to play with more peacock. :D

Fun experiment, and I love blue-greens. I wonder what would happen if you use the same navy for glazing with a bright orange. Would it turn out as a muddy brown or would the colours stay true?
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, but this could be worth trying! I think the navy is so deep that it could be a bit brown but still pretty maybe.

Hi Rebecca, another great video! A question from a novice: what is the difference when you dye in the pot vs glazing? Is it the amount of vinegar?
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
The amount of vinegar and movement of the yarn is a huge part.
@maudonink75922 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca. Is glazed an individual color or can you do it with all colors including food/fruit colors? 😏
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
You can do a glazed effect with any type of color as long as you can get it to strike to the yarn quickly. This would be super hard to do with natural dyes, but some food coloring will do something similar.
@cathymiller2249 ай бұрын
Can you get the glazing affect with food color?
@ChemKnitsTutorials9 ай бұрын
You CAN, but with certain pigments. Red#3 strikes really fast (so fast that it will crash out of solution with acid if you don't add the yarn in fast enough) and that pink color can give a glazed effect. That's the one that would be the best bet for glazing with food coloring, but I haven't specifically tried with a lot of colors
