I love seeing your process, esp when doing something with such different colors - both in how they behave and in mixing something that feels between them when you look at it. Super helpful in my own dying journey!

Hi Rebecca. That yarn is glorious. I would love to make a shawl or anything with them. I might have to go digging through my stash to see what I can find. Great job. Stay safe.

It is a great way to get the recipes as close as I can before trying out on full skeins. Even if I did some second guessing on those full skeins, i was still closer than I would have been otherwise.

These were all stunning. You getting so good with color mixing. Also wanted to share what I just learned from tie dye video that blue dawn is a ph neutralizer and can be used in place of sentrapal which is not spelled right but you know what I mean lol.

THank you! I feel like I'm getting so much better, although it helps that I played with Cabernet a lot to get a good feel.

I’m trying to remember where I saw this, but could you try kettle dyeing a skein of bare yarn with just a tiny amount of purple to tone out the yellow like they use purple shampoo to take out the brassy notes in blond hair?
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I think you could! I've seen a hint of blue make it look more white before. (Of course, for this set I wanted an ivory, so I wasn't thinking of toning.)
@sleepydrJ2 жыл бұрын
Why not do a huge bain Marie with glass jars on stovetop. This way you get results faster and don’t need to consider whether dyes will break or strike unevenly in the cold.
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
If I'm only doing 5 samples, then I can do them in glass jars inside of a pot. Once I get beyond 5 it would take a LOT longer to film and would make the stove unusable for anything else that filming day. That's the big reason. ;)

These are fantastic colours ! I have a question for anyone to answer please. Can dye solutions be stored in repurposed plastic containers such as from juice or flavoured water or would there be residue seeping into the plastic that might react with the dye ?
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Some colors may stain the plastic but it shouldn't damage the bottles or anything like that. (I would just NEVER reuse those bottles for food ever ever)

I was wondering now that you know that Cabernet looks different once heated would you do this whole experiment a bit differently?
@ChemKnitsTutorials5 ай бұрын
This is a really good question, and honestly I'm not sure. One thing I realized I haven't taken into account when I do color mixing is the ACUTAL weight of yarn. I assume a bare skein is 100 g, or 20 g, or 10 g based on what the mill says. But also I know that these weights can vary up to 10%.... I don't plan to start weighing the yarn, that would be too much. But it does show there is a bit of wiggle room. But this is a complete digression based on your question.

Will you be able to dye up some merino singles? I'd love to see a tutorial, every attempt for me has turned out into felting :(
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I've only done this a couple of times - with KnitPicks Preciosa. There may be only 2 videos with that kzbin.infosearch?query=preciosa but the yarn will start to stick to itself if you look at it cross eyed.
