Chen Meng is so, so solid. Nothing bothers her. Doesn't go for crazy shots. Bides her time. Her balance is so superior, returning to ready almost no matter what. Totally professional. Basically looks impossible to beat. If she holds her form, she will be Olympic Champion.

Ding Ning got obliterated but keep in mind she beat Mima Ito 4-1 and Wang Manyu 4-2 before this, so she clearly isn’t washed up yet. Chen Meng is simply just the better player at this point in time. This tournament certainly makes the 2020 CNT women’s singles picks more interesting. Chen Meng definitely has her spot locked in imo, but it’ll be a bloodbath between Ding Ning, LSW, SYS, WMY, and ZYL for the second space.

That's my doubt. I don't know what criterion each national federation must follow to determine the players who will play in the Olympics and in which category, single or pair: either the country has autonomy to pick the player or it must look upon to the world ranking. Anyway, if I were the responsible for Team China, I'd pick Chen Meng and Sun Ying Sha, notwithstanding Liu Shi Wen, another senior (姐姐 😉) as Ding Ning, cannot be ruled out.

Regarding serve: the tomahawk service of DN lacks of height and CM covers the ball with her face when hitting. Similar situation in the men's tournament. Why wasn't the Hawkeye used at this '20 German Open? Either the hidden serve is legalized again or the check of hiding is done by the Hawkeye. Same with the height and angle of the toss. Anyway - great matches and unreal superiority of the CNT! Grats!

In 2020 Chen Meng was at her peak in her table tennis playing career, winning WS in ITTF Grand Finals 4 yrs in a row , and managed to out-wit the young Chinese no. 1 Sun YS in Tokyo 2020 (played in 2021). Her career was sandwiched btwn Ding N & Liu SW and younger players Sun YS & Wang MY 🙏🙏

Not really. It's not impossible, but certainly very rare. That would make some psychology damages to players' minds, rage between players and possibly scandals and controversies , so they wouldn't do it because it causes more harm than good.
