well even if we don't understand the language but we know the melody. Like even if we don't understand any Spanish or Italian song which is famous, but we still know what song it is or would find it familiar because of melody and the sound of language. All the songs the main leads sung contained rhythm of famous Hindi songs, so the goons thought they were singing the songs. Plus, they were singing alternatively so the goons thought they were playing Antakshari'(A singing game where first player will sing a song, and next player will sing the song starting with last letter of previous player's song. Like if I sing the song and last letter of last word of song is S, then the next player will sing a song starting from letter S). And like female lead instructed the male that Talk in songs to avoid the suspicion.

Director of this movie, Rohit Shetty, is a stuntman himself, that's why there're some crazy stunts. This movie is about stereotypes, for example how people from north of India see those on south.
