In case you didn't realize, that middle section where she did her own runs was emulating the sax solo from Whitney's version.

If you haven't seen it yet, you should check out her performance of 'Everyone' from Immortal Songs 2. Look for the version with Eng subs. It is her absolute masterclass and what she has referred to as the most difficult song she has ever performed. It runs the gamut of vocal techniques and ranges.

Sohyang actually performed with David Foster in 2018. She had performed *I have Nothing* on a Korean TV show a few years prior. The story goes, Whitney's former manager saw the performance on KZbin and showed it to Oprah Winfrey. Oprah then told David Foster. He then invited Sohyang to one of his concerts.

Agree with all you said about the styling and vibrato choices because that’s what I also felt on the first hearing but as time went by I slowly but surely understood the her choice for the long elongated vibrato but for the life of me I cannot explain why. Try listening to the song more times and you may find the words to explain better why the elongated vibrato was chosen. All I know is that us humans should not question the Gods and that somewhere along the line Sohyang has and is becoming a vocal Goddess and that we should just take in her singing as the axiom.

Hey! To give you a little insight into the background of how I do things. ALL of my breakdowns are live. But after I view the video sometimes I jot down a couple of points that I want to make sure I convey that are important to me and so I can bring what I consider the best information for you! Sometimes, if I don’t write things down I will ramble and I don’t get what I intended to say across, so yes, after I view a video, sometimes I write down some thoughts, but when you see me watching the video that’s the first time! Also, I’d like to point out that even though these videos are filmed in a reaction style, I always title them “singer breakdown,” because I try to “break down” into bite sized pieces, information that I get from these performances. Good eye though! 😊

For God's sake.... give credit where it's actually due. Dolly Parton wrote the song and made it a hit ( twice! ) long before anyone knew who Whitney Houston was. As an aside.... I love the violinist in the brown shirt behind her fanboying away.

@@carlosgsantiago I saw that after I watched far enough into the video, thank you. Whenever I hear anyone refer to this as a "Whitney Houston cover" it makes me insane with rage. This song went to #1 twice with Dolly singing it. First in 1971 when it first came out, and again 10 years later in 1982 when she sang it in the Burt Reynolds film "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." Elvis Frigging Presley was beseeching Dolly for her to let him cover it, and she loved the idea until Elvis' agent told her it was "customary" to sign away ALL rights to the song.

I grew up listening to her sing this as the ending song for her TV show. Powerhouse vocals with a wistful warmth and tenderness that no one seems to be able to emulate. Maria Carrey has left the stage. Whitney Huston would be pleased. So would Dolly Parton. Sohyang made up for the lack of supporting instruments by singing the Saxophone solo. And you, arrogantly, presume that you could give a singing lesson to the unchallenged best singer on the planet. Really, Bruh?
