The finale is so satisfying. On both an intellectual and moral level. Kudos to the makers on interpreting complex realities into such a compelling structure.

I guess I'm weird because I've watched this mini series like 5 times and I've watched every reaction to it here on KZbin that I could find lol. I also binge watched The Handmaid's Tale and everyone says they can't do that. It's heavy but It's so good and so beautifully done! This last episode is some of the best TV I think I ever seen!

One of the weirdest things to come out of this is the black slime that has been found thriving in the reactor. The stuff absorbs gamma radiation. The wildlife has been returning and birth defects have largely dropped. Deer and wolves have been seen in areas that are too hazardous for humans but show no signs of radiation sickness. Far more interesting science than flying drones in Mars or a broken down space camera.

I haven’t looked into if the actor was actually portraying a younger Putin, but I’m personally convinced it is. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that.

New subscriber here. Just wamted to say that there was a difference between himgiving his life versus the people tht died running into save people. He knew the consequences an still went there while MOST of the ppl there rescuing ppl ddnt kniw the consequences. So i see why he feels hes already done enough on top o having to possibly get shot for telling the truth.

The difference between him, and those who risked their lives on the clean-up, is that they only risked their own lives, whereas he is also, potentially, risking the lives of his family.

07:11 Interesting detail--the prosecutor ran things, and outranked the judges. But in that room Boris is actually the highest ranking person we see. 08:04 I just watched a lecture on what happened in Chernobyl, and that safety test was never once successfully carried out in any reactor ever. Of course it also only EXPLODED once. 15:50 Boris went on to oversee response to a natural disaster, and saved countless lives by accepting help from the western nations on his own authority.

Chernobyl was not the only Soviet Nuclear Accident and not the worst Soviet Nuclear Accident. Since 1950 the Soviet Union had 57 land based Nuclear Accidents. The worst of which more than doubled the release of Chernobyl. These, for the most part, were in desolate places and closed cities in Siberia and Kazakhstan and not reported. One accident was in Leningrad/ St. Petersburg! They also had releases of weaponized anthrax among other things that wiped whole villages off the map. I strongly recommend you watch a documentary called "The Russian Woodpecker" that shows Chernobyl was not an accident but a deliberate sabotage by the Soviets. I was in Western Europe and Downwind of this when it happened. We couldn't eat or drink any dairy or eggs from the Economy. We drank a lot of powdered milk and ate powdered eggs for a good eight months.

Sadly the actor did die to cancer either last year (2020) or this year (2021) and the uk sitcom he was in gave him a lovely tribute and all his on screen family said goodbye to him. (Friday night dinners if your interested)

Who are the seven Game of Thrones actors please? It's been very long since I watched Chernobyl myself, but on the top of my head I only recall Maester Luwin (?) and Roose Bolton.. oh, and Pyp of course.

@Gerald H And there are at least two more who played minor roles on Game of Thrones. Laura Elphinstone (Oksana) was the woman with the child that Arya tried to save in episode 5 of series 8, and Billy Postlethwaite (Boris Stolyarchuk) was the Lannister soldier who first laughed at Arya's suggestion that she was going to kill Cersei when the weird Ed Sheeran cameo happened.

Comrade Dyatlov's School of Management : "Shut the fuck up and do your job !" It seems that Dyatlov felt himself A TRUE MASTER OF ATOM , hence his denial of the very thought of an accident - because everything he does is perfect and cannot go wrong . You must have balls of steel to lie to the judge in Soviet show trial room with ceramic tiles on the walls - the real room from the real KGB prison in Vilnius - there is now a museum , and YES - tiles are there to make it easier to wash the blood off the walls

That "I really think it was great, but I never want to watch it again, because it is too heavy to watch" for me is "Pan's Labyrinth", and to a lesser extent "Sucker Punch". :-] I really hate injustice of this kind.
