As many said before, the difference of age between Uhtred and Aethelflaed is not that great. It just seems that way because of the Actor. Draymond in the beginning of the show seemed like he was in his late 20s and the child they had for Aethelfaed was probably 9-10 years old. In the book, Uhtred was probably 18 when he met Aethelflaed and she was probably 9-10 years old. So it's not that weird, when you think about it like that. Also Uhtred leaving Ragnar was almost a given, because you could see from the start that his heart was not completely in to it. And when Ragnar decided to lead an army against Wessex, you could tell that it was not going to happen for Uhtred. If Ragnar hadn't decided to form an army and march for Wessex, they wouldn't have fought, Uhtred would have saved Aethelflaed and probably rejoined his brother in his fortress. So i kinda blame Ragnar for that.
