Cherokee Almanac: Camp Gruber and the Displacement of Cherokee Families

During World War II the United States Government built Camp Gruber near Braggs, Oklahoma. The construction of Camp Gruber took a heavy toll on Cherokee families who were displaced in order for the camp to be built.

I worked at Gruber in the 1990's. I remenber using some stones from those old fence rows to build a flower bed outside the old range control building. I often wondered what had happened to the people who were farming the land before Camp Gruber was there. Thanks for the insight.
