Wado this channel is very helpful. After my grandparents moved from the Cherokee Nation they had fewer and fewer conversations in Cherokee. I'm by no means fluient, so these weekly updates are invaluable to me.

Tsalagi is one of the tougher languages to learn if you're not exposed to it early in life since it's so different from English. One tip with words that are longer or more difficult is to start by breaking the Tsalagi word into the syllabary sounds and try pronouncing it one sound at a time from right to left (reverse from English) Ex: Tsalagi ᏣᎳᎩ Ꮳ Tsa/ can be pronounced Ja Ꮃ La Ꭹ Gi Gi - La Gi - Tsa La Gi

@Biracial Boy They can be intimidating. Are you referring to long words in phonetic English or in ᏣᎳᎩ Syllabary? Long Cherokee words in phonetic English get easier once you get the hang of breaking them into their Syllabary sounds. It takes practice but after a while it gets to be almost automatic. In ᏣᎳᎩ they're already broken down but learning the Syllabary is really important to learning Cherokee. The hardest part for me is relating the Spoken Cherokee and Written Cherokee. I miss a lot of words by ear because I don't hear the contractions and dropped sounds in conversational Cherokee and it's also community specific as to what gets contracted or dropped or replaced.

Break the "difficulty" in the sound, pronunciation, understanding, down with 🙏 and go forward in learning something different.

I have a question, maybe a dumb question, but since there is no r in the language. What would be the correct way to say the name Irene?

Austin Gragg i am also a real cherokee woman

Austin Gragg im not fluent in the language, and im also not trying to be a jerk. Im trying to learn. I was hoping someone who is fluent could respond and say, thats how you pronounce de when saying it all together, or.. you’re right, she did add an extra syllable and thats not the right way to say it. she says it differently during the sounding out of the syllables than she does when she says the phrase altogether, and i wanted to know if thats correct or if maybe she made a mistake, hence me saying “i think” you said it wrong

To be honest I think both are correct it just depends on to whom you are talking (like singular, 2 people, or 3 plus)
