Cherry-headed and mitred conures in Lafayette Park eating Pyracantha berries

The parrots of Telegraph Hill...in Lafayette Park. They're interested in the berries on a Pyracantha bush. In the first two segments you see them on a eucalyptus tree nearby, nibbling on it and checking to see if it's safe to descend to the berry bush. They were making a trilling noise I've never heard before, weird enough that I first thought it was some other kind of bird. Only a few showed up the day I filmed them. They weren't at all afraid of people (or dogs being walked by people), to the extent that you could stand right under them w/o disturbing their foraging, but they were completely silent (I spliced in audio from other parrot video in the first of the berry segments because of a conversation that took place at the time). I'm not sure what they thought of Pretty Bird (she was indifferent): at least once in the video you'll see a parrot look up when she says something.

Mitred Conure or Mitred Parakeet they are called. I own one. We love listening. I lived near them for years. So intelligent and loving🦜🦜♥️♥️

Mitreds are my favorite. Best personality and they form such a loving bond. The only thing sucks about the one I had was that he was so damn loud. Otherwise I would have kept him. But I couldn't deal with the volume.

@@patriciamartinez5836 Mine would make loud noises when he heard me talking to someone else. or if I left the room. or just randomly when he'd be on my arm. It was the loudest thing I've ever heard. But I forgot to add that in my opinion Mitred conures are also the most beautiful parrot out of all of the parrots. The deep green with that beautiful red and they are so robust.

@@bandawhat33 exactly! Mine does the same thing lol. She has never flown and she doesn’t even know how. She has been all over Colorado on my shoulder.

@@patriciamartinez5836 Mine was terrible at flying also. And he always wanted to be near me. So I could bring him in my back yard and I had no worries of him flying away because his flying ability was so poor. I think the smaller birds despite having clipped wings can fly pretty good.

In San Francisco they are all over. Check out telegraph hill. You can go and feed hundreds of them. A man made a documentary of them living in his yard. About 30 years ago a truck crashed carrying parrots. They flew and survived in different areas
