Cherry Red were (and still are) a very important part of my life. I'm 57 in a few weeks so I grew up with the label together with Rough Trade, Stiff etc....Pretty much mandatory for alternative listening as a UK based music fan. Iain McNay deserves full kudos for his efforts over the years.

I became aware of Cherry Red on my first visit to England in April 1983. I picked up a copy of Pillows & Prayers - a compilation of Cherry Red artists. The cassette had a sticker "Pay No More Than 99p". My favourite artists on the collection were Marine Girls and Felt. Listening to that compilation brings so many memories. Thanks for this video, Mazzy

The Manchester comp looks fantastic. Love that era and sound. I remember when it was really hard to get Cherry Red CDs. Back in the '90s before amazon and ebay you'd have to find a bank that issued the correct kind of international money order and then coordinate all that and send it to England and hope in two months the CDs would get to you. I got a really good Cherry Red comp by the British band, the Wolfhounds from the late '80s. A really underrated indie cult band. Glad to see you trying to broaden the horizons of your viewers who seem perpertually stuck in 1972 US rock.

Tommy James came to western PA hunting for a band. And he came to Greensburg PA and hired the raconteurs History was made. My good friend Don was in a band called Battalion ( I was In briefly). They played the long version perfectly. My friend Donnie passed away at a young age. A true friend. Thanks for taking me back. The Electric Prunes were such a great band. Thanks again.

Of course that Chery Red EL label is marvelous, unearthing so many forgotten pop gems of all kind ... In the mid 80ies Cherry Red release very often could be found in the cut out. never expected they would grow like this. Yes, and my introduction to them was Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, what a monster of an album.

Thanks for the recommendations, just ordered the Tommy James and Electric Prunes sets. Here's a rec not on Cherry Red: Saigon Rock & Soul: Vietnamese Classic Tracks 1968-1974. My most recent Grapefruit purchase: The Electric Banana - The Complete De Wolfe Sessions. For some odd (maybe legal) reason, the liner notes avoid naming The Pretty Things (who are the Electric banana) directly but mention all group members. It is so amazing, that besides SF Sorrow and all those brilliant singles they still had enough music left for these library soundtrack releases. And of cause highly recommended are these 3 CD sets: - Let's Go Down and Blow Our Minds - British Psychedelic Sounds of 1967 - Looking at the Pictures in ther Sky - British Psychedelic Sounds of 1968 ... songs one is familiar with from the Rubble Series etc. are mostly represented by alternate versions and surprisingly great ones.

Cherry Red have some fantastic re,-issue box sets that sets an exemplary standard ... the "full fat" deluxe multi CD sets for all the Be Bop Deluxe studio albums are just majestic .... including signed card(s) by Bill Nelson ... fabulous .... includes both original and alternative up to date remix of each album plus contemporary in concert and BBC session material .... and all the sets are even fairly priced ... NOT rip-off city ... (I think the Al Stewart and Renaissance deluxe sets are also on Cherry Red) .... you also need to be signed up to the Burning Shed mailing list (separate company) for all things Marillion. Jethro Tull, Wishbone Ash, Steve Hillsge, Bill Bruford, etc, etc ... I buy a lot from both Cherry Red and Burning Shed ... on CD no less (no faff with pops, scratches, needle fluff, dust, changing sides .... not anti vinyl but CDs (or Qoboz for HiRes streaming if I don't need a physical copy) just works for me .... each to his own. CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland .... .... p.s. saw Lene Lovich on her break out tour as a solo artist at a packed, late night, Aberdeen University student union gig in January or February 1979 ... immediately after attending an earlier packed UFO gig at the Capitol theatre in the city ... good times .... oh to have a time machine ... p.p.s. do check out both Cherry Red and Burning Shed catalogues .... and try out Qoboz (with a DAC) v Spotify ... you will enjoy it

@@mazzysmusic Absolutely, I get that (I had over 1,300 LPs but moved them on .... clearly some I "should" have kept ... more as pieces of art (I think that was in one of your previous videos) ... but space was a challenge and the cash was "ok" (not awesome)) .... nowadays I find it helpful to check things out aurally before going physical (CD or box sets) ...e.g. I listened to David Crosby's new album (For Free) before immediiately going straight to HMV for a copy ... ditto for Doobie Brothers Liberte ... didn't do that though for Van Morrison's new release ...or Clapton's ... music was "ok" but not a must have for me .... today's Qoboz listen is the Tedeschi Trucks new one "I am the Moon" which looks like it will need a few listens to get into ... there are a few recent releases that, without Qoboz new release info. would have not been on my radar (Tash Sultana Live looks interesting as does the new one from Brian Jackson) .... I like having a physical copy 'cause it's "mine" .... but I do then rip almost everything I have (more than 150,000 tracks on my PC) so I can listen instantly to my tunes at any time (was using MediaMonkey but now using MusicBee since last MediaMonkey revision "killed" its ease of use) and I also likr to have a revolving set of albums to enjoy offline on my portable players when travelling and out / about. I do also like the listening experience when listening to HiRes 48/24, 96/24. 192/24 , etc that you get on Bluray (or Qoboz et al) 'cause (for me) it does just sound wonderful (e.g. Kansas' Absence of Presence, Weltschmerz (by Fish), remix of Floyd's Momentary Lapse of Reason, etc ..... the only extra kit needed is a USB DAC for your PC (and USB audio player pro app for your [Android] phone) .... I enjoy your channel and its interesting content a lot ... p.s. my "most product" artists are Dylan, CSN and Y (plus offshoots), Wishbone Ash. Barclay James Harvest, Yes, Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Allman Brothers plus offshoots, Beatles (Wings / McCartney / Harrison / Lennon), Foreigner .... Happy listening CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland ...

LPs are 'Music Canvis' is sort of a way I've seen the media since I 1967 and I just turn 14. Nashville Skylines has only 28 mins and Quicksilver's Happy Trail album has about 48 mins and both of them are some of my favorite music. ..... I Honestly believe 30-to-40-minute albums are ideal for a 'Music Canvis' - These 70-minute albums are ridiculous, because not everyone can write a 'TOMMY' by Peter Townsend. Even John Winters knew his LIMITS were 3 Side of on 2 records because he didn't have the cohunes to go 4 sides. ..... I knew that was going to be a problem by forcing songs that weren't up to the challenge being add just to fill the space....
