For those of you who say she's out of tune, she's actually not. There's only one moment near the end, where she tries to hit a higher note and she loses the pitch. But apart from that, she's in tune throughout the entire song. It's true she lacks control and that her voice is a bit unstable. But overall, she is not as bad or as painful as you are trying to make her look! Get some criteria, guys. Opinions on their own are not enough when wanting credibility...

@annacorr Simple, people liked her and didnt like Javine. She got the highest vote on the night, not for her singing, but for the way she hugged Amie the week before, and if you watch that vid you will see Javine hardly showing any emmotion, when the other 4 were in tears. Think im mad if you like but the public pick up on little things like that and in that 5 minutes, i believe, Javine was seen as selfish and hard and her chance had gone.

Looking back at this it was 2002 and I cant beleive how much Cheryl as changed in 8 years, back then she was just a normal girl from newcastle fighting for a place in girls aloud and know she is a talent judge herself and dus her own solo stuff. Nobody can say this is a good vocal in comparison to the standard expected on the X Factor nowadays. However, I do remember watching this series just as religiously as I do the X Factor and at the time - I didn't expect as much as I do today from the contestants. We voted for her and the other members of the group. They probably wouldn't have made it through even the first stage of current talent shows, but, things have become a lot more complicated in regard to these shows....

everyone seems to forget that the judges were looking for band singers and so they knew that there would be other people supporting each voice. she may not b the strongest singer but if she was the group would be to one sided. she has earned her fame and is more qualifed to judge on xfactor than dani is due to the fact she has been there herself and came out on top.

obviously all you who are posting comments are not singers and therefore don't know what nerves can do to someone's voice. Cheryl can sing, that is evident in many of her performances with girls aloud but if you have ever had a performance affected by nerves you will know what its like and be able to distinguish between someone who cannot sing and someone who is too nervous to sing properly.

i can't believe that people are saying she can't sing. i think she sings well! yes she makes a couple of mistakes but hé, nobody is perfect. you should not forget that this was the beginning. she must do exercises with her voice to prevent singing false that's it. that she is in the group at the end, make obviously clear that she CAN sing.
