Chesapeake and Delaware: CNJ Special on the High Bridge Branch

On May 21, 2022, the CNJ Veterans Association held a very special trip for former fallen flags employees. Chesapeake and Delaware LLC hosted this trip along their former CNJ Chester and High Bridge branches, starting out of Succasunna NJ. The trip would run to the end of track on the Chester Branch, head east to the NJT interchange at Lake Jct, then head west along the High Bridge branch to the current end of track just west of Flanders.
Consist for this trip consisted of C&D GP9u #1888 (former CP Rail), and borrowed equipment from the nearby Whippany Railway Museum - CNJ observation car “Jersey Coast”, the recently restore former Lackawanna MU car #2454, and former CNJ caboose #91529.
In this video we look at the High Bridge Branch portion. First we see a photo runby performed at the Bartley Runaround. After which we’ll hop aboard the observation deck of the “Jersey Coast” and enjoy the ride. We race through Sandra Park, the swamps along Drakes Brook, cross over Rt 10 in Ledgewood and get a scenic view of Marine Lake in Kenvil.

Nice Lackawanna passenger car, My grandpa started as a fireman on steam trains for Lackawanna before becoming an engineer, then continued for Erie Lackawanna until he retired in 1975..........brings such great memories!
