That intro, that was gold! Even though the audio is quite decent in my opinion, but still.

Btw, in the description, two of the ACE 3000 links are blocked because the KZbin channel was terminated. Anyways, did you look it up in the web archives?
I totally understand why this is called a K5LA whistle, it sounds a LOT like an actual K5LA, especially the older ones on Amtrak

I blew a similar replica of this whistle at Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad on Cass Scenic Railroad Heisler #6

I miss that whistle it would be great to hear that whistle on 2100 when she’s fully restored back to operation although the whereabouts of this unique whistle is unknown to me could be at the B&O Railroad museum but I’m not 100% sure

HOPEFULLY this magnificent whistle will soon be reunited with the 614, because guess who's ALSO being restored back to operation? Yep, that's right! Mr. Ross Rowland just reached a purchase agreement with a rail heritage group that will bring the mighty Greenbrier back to life in Strasburg in 2025, then make her a touring engine again! I'd love to see her meet up with 2100 at some point, along with N&W 611 if possible. Wild times in rail preservation.

Arguably one of the most gorgeous sounding whistles of all time. Even though it’s supposed to have the same notes as a Nathan K5LA horn, it still sounds GORGEOUS.

Literally couldn't be any more different from a k5la. This is a six chime steam whistle, not a five chime air horn
@regularguy72662 жыл бұрын
It's a Nathan K5LA 5 chime, reason why people call it a K5LA is because it has the same toning to a K5LA horn.
@kirbyyork7669 Жыл бұрын
It’s a 5 chime steam whistle that was built to play the same chords as the K5la air horn used on diesel locomotives. So it’s a K5la for steam locomotives. It’s all in the five chambers of the whistle.
@dcoursey82 Жыл бұрын
I used to think the same thing, but it truly is a 5 chime with the same tuning as a K5LA. The whistle was made by Robert Swanson. This all came from Ross Rowland himself who was the owner and engineer of 614.

Technically could be a whistle if you make a 5 chime with the same tones as a K5LA
@justinmeeks18682 жыл бұрын
This is a 5 chime whistle that plays a B major 6th chord, which is the exact chord played by a K5LA. Think of it like playing the same chord on a like a pipe organ and a trumpet. The same musical chord, different instrument.

@@amtrak_121 Nah. That was a 5 chime right there. The two 6 chimes the 614 would wear a few years later would be a Reading 6 chime and a Western 6 chime (I forgot if that whistle was from a different railroad like ATSF, SP, C&O, etc.)
