In fact, this song isn’t new at all! It was featured in the original London production that played in the West End from 1986 to 1989. You must have seen the Broadway production that was staged in the late 80s, after the West End one. The American version was quite different since it was heavily rewritten and one of the major changes was sadly cutting this wonderful song. Luckily, it’s now back in all modern productions of Chess around the world. Also, the bit you recognize is a quick reprise of a segment from the song ‘Diplomats/US vs USSR’ that appears in Act 1.

@@JF-sh2sm Have never been to B/way; saw it twice in London, West End "early doors"; have the double album on vinyl - pretty sure it's not on there; know it almost word for word and went to second show knowing almost all of it.
