What a clear, soaring tenor voice David Carroll had, and what a legendary Broadway moment this is! God bless you, David.

Every clip I've ever seen or heard of this man has deserved a standing ovation. I am so sad that I'll never have a chance to see David Carroll live. But to all those that continue to share his work with us: thank-you.

I was lucky enough to meet him briefly when he was producing a concert version of Chess at Carnegie Hall. He was just as nice as he was talented. This recording never fails to touch my heart.

Without a doubt, still and will always be the best and definitive version of this anthem.

I agree what a fantastic voice. Best version of Anthem. Unfortunately he let his destructive behaviors take over his life and eventually that of his partner. I guess no worse than alcohol or drugs but the the songs still ends the same way.

I saw David Carroll 3 times perform in Chess at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway. This brings back great memories.

I just showed a picture (that David gave me at the birth of my firstborn) to my youngest, so I had to share his voice with her as well. This was a perfect minute.Still makes me cry. Thanks for sharing. Beth Guiffre

Thank you for posting! I loved his voice! Broadway lost the next big male performer. He was exploding when he passed. So sad.

Man he was good. He does the Russian accent as well (more noticeable in the cast recording). That's what burned me about Groban in the Royal Albert Hall show--no accent.

Always and forever my favorite Anatoly. I have desperately searched for a video recording of the original Broadway cast, is that what this clip is from? Do you have any hints as to where I might find one? Thanks for posting!
