The Ponziani Countergambit is an aggressive approach to attack the center of the board by playing 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 f5.

As always very instructive video. The Ponziani is my favourite opening. Today, at my local chess club I was defeated by a player who played this countergambit. So I have headed straight here to see where I went wrong. And yes, I am greedy, so if you can do the declined variation I would be even happier!

Back in 2012 I played in the Empire City Open. I'm no master, mostly hovered in the B and C class. But I thought I had sufficient prep as black vs 1.e4: Berlin Defense, Two-Knights Ulvestad and Scotch Game. We were evenly matched when it came to ratings. When my opponent played 3.c3, I was stuck. A lot of moves I thought of led to white rolling the center. Then after over 20 mins of cloudy lines, I thought why not my speed chess prep - the Latvian Gambit. Well hey, a counter attack! And my opponent got stuck for over 10 minutes and played passively, probably did not expect an aggressive response with a pawn and was probably out of his book. He declined the pawn offer. All piece moves for black seemed to lead to a passive/cramped game. I know I am late to the party, but did you create a video for the declined line? I love your work!

I enjoy my chess and encourage you to explore further. Frankly I struggle to see the pitfalls which you and others see and therefore I know I continue to be any real good! But I do enjoy the beauty even though I cannot play well. So thanks. Timothy Marshall
