There is an alternative for white. 2...d6. 3. Nf3 dxe5. 4. Nc3. At this point, black's statistically correct move is Nc6, but black will probably be intent on bringing the bishop out which would be a slightly inferior alternative and return the advantage to white. As white I would then play e4, halting the e5 pawn's advance and preventing the bishop from free access to the diagonal. The drawback for white is that this move requires a different style of play than the traditional Bird's strategy of controlling the black squares, but it does offer a very playable alternative.

I do play the Bird often and I always go for the Kings Gambit instead if the answer is Froms Gambit. I feel also, 3 e5 x d6 is unplayable for the whole bunch of terrible variations correctly mentioned by you, and 3 Nf3 does not look much better for white. In the Kings Gambit there are a number of complicated variations I like for white, and whoever has prepared the From to outprepare me, usually wants to use a shock therapy, but he is not likely to be a Kings Gambit enthusiast.

Recently, i had an online opponent who played a very interesting line : 5.d3 g4 6. Nd4 (which seems a little bit odd at first sight) Qh4+ 7.g3 Bxg3 8. hxg3 Qxh1 9.Bf4 with the idea of a very fast development by white : Qd2, Nc3 and 0-0-0 (with some threats like Qe3+ and Nb5 in the air) and claiming that the black queen is terribly missplace. This line scored incredibly well on lichess database with 70% winrate for white after 5.d3 for players rated 2000+ (and even for players rated 2500+) with a large amount of games. Also, this line seems to be computer approved with at least around +1 for white no matter what black plays. What would you advice to face this and do you think this is something special for white ? As a Bird's player, I'd just like to say that white is perfectly fine (or even better) in the From's. the From's is NOT a refutation of the Bird. Y'all gotta calm down. Plus there is a hole in his analysis. at around 15:50 White is actually much better after O-O! (instead of Nxd6+) and if Black continues Rdh8 then White has the amazing h4!! and if black takes en passant then White will use your pawn as a shield.

Till this date I don't understand why people play the birds opening. You would have to play a perfect game to not lose the game. Weaking the kings diagonal with the very first move is not good. There is a reason why this move is rarely played at GM level.
@tellahsage6477 Жыл бұрын
Black can't really take advantage of that diagonal after the natural 2.Nf3. That's the entire point of playing the From's gambit, you make white spend a few moves grabbing a couple pawns in order to get ahead in development and start making threats, and in an opening like this that's truly dangerous
@MoreAmerican3 жыл бұрын

@Les_Fleurs_duMal4 жыл бұрын
Wouldnt say, that the froms gambit is really terryfing against a "seriously" Bird-Player. Every good Bird-Player studies the From-Gambit perfectly or avoids it entirely with 2. e4. Black really has to know what he is doing and even on Pro-Level its not clear if you can get an advantage with it for black. And even IF you are that of an ultimate Froms Gambit-Player as black, so be it. As a Bird-Player i can tell, that the gambit is played rarely and i never saw the complete main-variation he shows in the video on a chessboard. Maybe in 1 of 100 Froms Gambit-Plays you will face a pro in this variation, but for the rest, you will have the upper hand with better knowledge and comfort in this variation. Cheers
@Les_Fleurs_duMal4 жыл бұрын
And for the main-variation with rook h5 and knight takes bishob on d6, you can simply castle as white. Sure, it looks scary to do that, but you should give here the h-pawn back for the black g pawn and use blacks own new h-pawn as a good shield for your king on h1. Trade the white-space bishops and your king will be safe there. It isnt that bad for white. You only have to play very accurate. And to quote a bird-playing GM Bent Larsen: "4. … g7-g5 doesnt seem good." ;-)
