I completely agree, 2250 elo is not at all mediocre. From memory that's somewhere close to FM, putting him in the international upper echelon for chess. He could never win a game against a Super GM, but it's still by definition 30000x better than the average player (aka would win 29999/30000 games)

@nicbentulan 2 жыл бұрын
@@Chessboxing not sure what's the right term but why can't chessboxing commentators in chess parts have the same resources that chess commentators do? it's so hard to commentate without visually describing it. it's also hard to commentate correctly if you don't have an engine. even superGM like david howell eg in meltwater champions chess tour refers to an engine aaaaand... i don't think the engine is just for the audience. david doesn't really 'need' the engine. but it seems highly impractical to do without especially in blitz chess.
@nicbentulan
@nicbentulan 2 жыл бұрын
@@Chessboxing eg as to why commentators need engines: 16:46 fork is actually a bad move. check out stockfish on lichess: the fork is actually a bad move. it appears drawish on lower depth but let stockfish run on higher depth. it is actually bad. there are no drawish moves here. it's a critical move (without drawish moves as wrong answers): black has to play Rg8 it's not that the commentators are bad or anything. it's the admin's fault for not providing them with an engine. hell even superGMs like david howell use engines when commentating eg meltwater champions. how much more for non-superGMs?
@nicbentulan
@nicbentulan 2 жыл бұрын
@@Chessboxing here's my commentary, albeit post game and with engine lol. but still i think when an engine says there's only 1 good move, this is immediately accessible to the commentators. then when a player plays the only good move, then the commentators can give praise to the player and then the audience can better appreciate the game...i guess. tell me what you think, like if the audience could've benefited from knowing that there were critical moves especially for white coming from black's resilient yet bad computer-wise moves or something: --- commentary: --- 16:46 is very sharp. for black the only good move is Rg8. after the wrong move of the fork, by f4, the only good move is Rg7. WHITE FINDS THIS. after Rg7, the only good move is pawn takes. BLACK FINDS THIS. after pawn takes, the only good move is queen takes back. WHITE FINDS THIS. now white is down 2 minor pieces for 4 pawns BUT WHITE IS STILL WINNING (in evaluation, so at least in a computer sense. i didn't analyse if in a human sense white is winning) back to the game: Qf5 is the best computer move but black plays i think a more 'resilient' move e4 (and i guess more human move) in that white's move is now critical. the only good move is Rxd7. WHITE FINDS THIS. once again we have a best computer move Nxd7 but a black ONCE AGAIN plays a more resilient and probably more human move Bf4 pinning the queen to the king. the only good move is Rxc7. there are several drawish moves that can be played but unfortunately probably with the upcoming boxing round white blunders playing Bg6, hanging the rook. you can see that black has done some kind of swindle here (i think): playing suboptimal computer moves but excellent human or resilient moves to force white into difficult critical moves.

An excellent contest. Chessboxing is about how much the boxing interferes with chess playing skills. Using a chess engine is missing the point apart from pointing out blunders. Each player played some clever moves and each player made a lot of blunders. Normally a 2267 rated player would never have made any of those blunders. Maybe Jarmany played 600 or 800 points below his usual level? In the end a bit disappointing that Little lost on time and wasn't checkmated, but that's the game. I suggest that instead of yelling and being over excited, the chess commentator should concentrate on saying who's winning, whether there's any chance of checkmate soon and roughly what each side is trying to do. Lennox Lewis is a chess enthusiast. I expect he'd be good enough to last the first chess round against anyone and there wouldn't be a second chess round!

If chessboxers retire to be a full time chess player would every chess matches he lost be settled in a hand to hand combat?

It’s ideas like this that make me feel better when someone tells me my idea is dumb or would never work or no one would like it. If you have a weird fun idea and you feel like people would enjoy it, don’t listen to the first 10 people you talk to. Believe in yourself and make it happen.

I'd love to see a team match version of this sport. Imagine getting a high level boxer and a SuperGM teaming up. Magnus Carlsen and Tyson Fury would be a disgusting combo.

That would defeat the point of the sport. The challange is to play chess after boxing - it's not as easy as it looks.
