Chessie gets a HUGE bite! The Donjon crew working the Bridge Collapse Site on May 17, 2024

Chesapeake 1000 teamed up with the salvage claw work to lift a massive piece of the Key Bridge in Baltimore. The Dali remains in position where she has been since the collapse.
This is a modified 4k video sped up to show the work done today with an overlay of audio from our livestream.

The operator of the yellow excavator with the shear on the barge is very good at what he's doing. He's on the right, much smaller than the cranes, He's cutting up the huge junks of mangled steel making them easier to haul off. Great footage!

Great Job Andy. Heard a lot of comments today about the Weeks 533 not doing much but lifting a man basket all day. Correct Me if I'm wrong but the Weeks 533 crane is working directly with Resolve Marine on the Dali, and has nothing to do with Donjon on the rest of the bridge structure.

I was watchin this before I left for work a the after I left for work. The first time they brought the chunk up it reminded me of the head from the Alien from the movie 🍿 Alien… it was exciting to see The Claw bring up such a Huge Piece.. Andy, Isn’t it true that as the Claw is lifting, the pumps have to shift ballast to compensate for the load. The barge receiving also h as to transfer ballast to compensate for the debris. Dropping from the claw, the wake could swamp some of those small boats. Nerves of Steel in these operators!

I believe the answer is yes. They ballasted it down into the mud to keep it from moving and possibly damaging the underwater gas line near the bow.

Start at 5:32 and zoom close, observe the cutting torch immediately above the surface of the barge, also the rusty looking piece at the tip and above the barge will drop out of sight behind the barge. Your "explosion" is actually a splash from the falling piece of structure out of sight behind the barge, this all occurs and the cutting torch ceases at the moments imediately after Andy completes the word "cable". Sharp eyes you have there. Suppliment: The "piece" cut off was actually on the barge and hanging over the edge.
