Massive concrete pillars still remain on the deck of the Dali in Baltimore Harbor. Resolve Marine works with the Weeks 533 crane to remove the debris. 4k video from the drone shows the project. Donjon is working at the collapse site to remove the debris where the bridge fell.

I have a hard time imagining how they got the Dali moved at all with all that concrete weight. I only realized today the presence of the horizontal top piece of the bridge pier. Facinated too, how they built two staircases to get across it. Mighty fine images Captain Andy! Stayin tuned! 👍🤠

At 7:40 ish, from where the hole is look to the right and see a worker in orange with white hardhat moving. Looks to me like he's tending one of the diamond wire cutting machines and they're chopping off the end that's being held by the crane. The piece fell because that's where they're cutting. Note the straight cut edge as it falls. Look back to the worker on the right. You can see the cutting wire, two strands, out and back (it's a loop.) The orange paint line is the cut line see: 9:34. If you look closely there are several places where you can identify the cutting wire. Another cutting machine can be seen at 9:21 in front of the Mactech tent. I bet they're using that to carve off slices of that massive structure it's sitting on.

So for any one interested you can see that white tent structure they have set up on the big concrete crossbeam that other smaller white rectangular “box” directly starboard of it near the edge of the concrete is a wire saw unit that pulls a diamond wire to cut the concrete. They direct where it goes with a series of blocks. Looking at time stamp 8:30 just after that block falls.

You have one of the 4 legs of the substructure rigged to the crane. The Cap Beam, or solid piece of massive concrete is lying on the deck. One of the columns has been removed from the bow end of the Cap beam. No wonder the bridge came down. The Dali kicked out 2 of the 4 columns supporting that portion of the bridge.

At 9:22 find the point where the rightmost chain contacts the concrete that it's holding. Immediately to the right of that point are a couple of rods supporting two wheels. Those wheels are guiding the cutting wire which you can see going down and to the right from there. On the left side of the hole, where that big chunk fell off, you can see the cut marks following the orange paint line

fantastic images again Captain Andy - i did watch some of the live feed and saw the chunk of concrete departing that 'fragile' pier block, of course it is heavy and when standing vertical had more strength to it (a bit like a cardboard tube), in this precarious position i guess it might seem a little fragile and probably is still hanging on from the rebar at the upper portion - the cross piece that spanned between two of the piers legs looks enormous but i suspect it too will be hollow, that being the part that lies on the bow down the centre from the squashed containers to the centre point of the bow, that scaffold was in place shortly after the inspections were made, i suspect again engineers are making some way to re-engineer the ships machinery before she moves on anywhere while the debris is dismantled - still going to be interesting to watch this process unfold - loving your work Andy, keep us entertained young fella

As I see it, there’s a whole concrete beam still on the deck, at the end of the part supported by the crane is another square block attached to that beam, stretching towards the bow where the more visible square block is. This beam must have been connecting the top of the pillars and supporting the bridge. I think they will. It the beams up in large chunks and lift them off with the crane

@christopherrobinson7541
@christopherrobinson7541 6 күн бұрын
Concrete is 150 lbs/ft3 Water 62 lbs/ft3 Steel 480 lbs/ft3 The large block of apparently solid concrete appears to be a cube 20 ft by 20 ft by 20 ft = 8,000 cu ft which would weigh 1.2M lbs, about 600 tons. Rebar would make it slightly heavier. Also it could be larger pushing the limit of the 533 (1,000 tons).
