The sound of a 567d3a engine is music to my ears.As you know the sd35 is the successor of the moderately successful sd24 series which offered slightly less tractive effort than its sd24 brother and it is the predecessor to the successful sd40 and sd40-2 series of locomotives made by emd.Unfortunately these units lost their charm as their 567 engines were difficult to maintain than 645e3 engines.But some railroads kept them in service without removing the turbo where as Chessie rebuilt 5 with non turbocharged 645e engines and southern pacific popped in 645e assemblies into a few if their models by retaining the turbocharger and the others by removing it.I gotta say you have a lot of 567 sounds which were a part of our GT16s.truly Awesome.

Is it required to remove the brake handles,switch off the headlights other than removing the reverser handle while switching control stands in a dual control unit and why locomotives have a start switch near the engine and inside the cab
@jefftoft55682 жыл бұрын
No, just switch the lever. That is the way they were designed to be started, I don't work for EMD.

Is there any procedure to change the control stands on the dual controlled me locomotives.
@jefftoft55682 жыл бұрын
You take the control lever from stand and put it in the other stand.

Is there any other way to control the idling speed of the engine without using the throttle by adjusting the fuel racks or someother way.
@jefftoft55682 жыл бұрын
No, I don't believe so.

Jeff sir why some first generation diesel locomotives had F for front,1 and 2 marked on the long hood and short hood end is it because they were equipped with dual controls or something else
@jefftoft5568 Жыл бұрын
F for the front, that way the engineer was on the right side to see the track side signals. N&W was one of the few railroads that had dual control stands.

Jeff sir Since you have worked on railroads I would like to know when did railroads stop using steam cranes and switched over to diesel cranes.
@jefftoft5568 Жыл бұрын
I would say late 50s to early sixties.

chessie rebuilt those SD35s into a so-called SD20. 5 were built. note, one of them went up with 2101(reading T1). just after the fire(arson)I went to Ky and photoed the mess, the SD20 had about half it's paint torched.
@jefftoft55685 жыл бұрын
Wow! I knew Queensgate had three or four of them. I think the first one was numbered 7700 but then they renumbered them.
@jeffreymcfadden94035 жыл бұрын
@@jefftoft5568 yes,,,chessie numbered them beginning with 7700.

Jeff sir do you know exactly when chessie took control of Baltimore and Ohio,cheseapeake and Ohio and other railroads like Louisville and Nashville.
@jefftoft55682 жыл бұрын
CSX absorbed the L&N, which was under Family Lines (SCL L&N). I’m not sure of the exact dates, CSX early 1980’s. CSX stands for Chessie Seaboard.

Jeff sir I would like to know why American railroads and railways don't have gaurds or people who show flags when a passenger train or a freight train was about to depart in the 20th century while the British had one.also why cabooses weren't meant for gaurds while the British had a gaurd on board a caboose.
@jefftoft5568 Жыл бұрын
There was no reason to have guards cabooses were for the conductor to keep an eye on the train, he was in charge.
