I was with CSX (then Chessie System prior to the merger) when they collapsed several smaller yards in the Cincinnati area into Queensgate. Much more efficient operation and they locals liked it because it eliminated scores of grade crossings. Back in 1978 Queensgate had two humps. I see that has expanded.

I-75 is parallel with CSX Queensgate railroad classification Yards in Cincinnati Ohio with a quarter mile apart, but it cannot be view because the buildings are in the way as well as other tall objects. There are a total of 48 tracks, 12 humps, and 6 groups of 8 tracks each for the main classification yard.
@rickbrown34863 жыл бұрын
There are 50 tracks in the Classification Bowl... ONE HUMP, one Master Retarder & 7 GROUP Retarders lead into Tracks 1 through 50. The tracks North of the Bowl is the Departure Yard... If I remember correctly, about 10 tracks + & the tracks South of the Hump is the Receiving Yard... Again, if I remember correctly, about 10 tracks + & the entire yard from the North End (nearest I-74 & I-75) to the South End (just shy of the Ohio River) or in the direction the drone is flying, is just about three (3) miles. The yard just East (or at the top) of Queensgate at about the four (4) minute mark (+/-) is the Norfolk Southern Yard & East of that (again, at the top) is the shared Intermodal Ramp for both railroads. The tracks running East & West at the South end of Queensgate Yard is the old Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Indiana Subdivision that runs to Washington, Indiana - about 200 miles West, pretty much following U.S. Rte. 50. Queensgate Yard "humps" approximately 1,800 cars every 24 hours depending on traffic levels & operates 24/7/363.

ITellMyself Secrets not too long ago, that bowl was full. Especially after Russell closed and that traffic was routed there. Sad to see it like this.
