Featured is the final round game between 10-year-old Argentine chess prodigy Faustino Oro and Grandmaster Georg Meier from the Americas Continental Chess Championship 2024. The opening is a French Defense, Advance Variation, where Oro first accumulates positional pluses on Meier's kingside and then follows with a sacrifice that grants Oro's major pieces access to the black king. In this event, Oro secured his second International Master norm and gained 48 rating points. He is now only one International Master norm and one rating point away from breaking Abhimanyu Mishra's record for youngest International Master ever. Faustino Oro was born on October 14, 2013.

How can a grandmaster play so awful
@Entheos84
@Entheos84 2 ай бұрын
@@ericalover3025 After Jerry's clear and concise analysis it may look that the grandmaster played awful. Georg Meier however is a very strong player. Both played really well in this game. Faustino Oro was just the better player in this game. It shows Faustino his talent and potential to become a grandmaster in the future. Best of luck to him :)

Amazing game! 🏆 Players: 10-year-old Argentine prodigy Faso Oro (FM, 2351) vs. GM Georg Meier (2607). Event: America's Continental Chess Championship 2024. Highlights: Opening: Advanced French Defense, with an impactful E5 pawn. Strategy: Meier missed using the F pawn actively. Faso built up a strong king-side position. Tactics: Knight sacrifice on F6 opened Black's king side for a winning attack. Endgame: Faso secured a pawn advantage and a safer king, forcing Meier to resign. Faso Oro is now one step closer to becoming the youngest International Master ever! 🌟♟🔥 Hope you enjoyed the breakdown! 😊

Rook c7, so classy at the end there. Is that early middlegame sequence with Queen b6 - Knight a5, etc. a known line in the Advance French? There are so many small ways to go wrong for white.

Great coverage Jerry. I think 3.e5 is the acid test of the French Defence, rather than 3.Nc3. One question - at 14:45 instead of playing g3 or f4 to block the check, isn't 37.Rg3 just crushing? It seems that White will pick up g6 in the next couple of moves, probably with check and potentially forking the rook on b1. Am I missing something that makes 37.f4 a better move? Keep the great videos coming, my man! Looking forward to your coverage of the coming world championship match!

thanks Jerry. Wow that's a young man to watch. Was wondering about the move Rg3 instead of F4 but as it played out, that's just a perfect square for that pawn to interfere with the attack. Thanks for the great video.

One question. Why the early BD7 by black as opposed to the more traditional attacking QB6? BD7 seems to accomplish nothing.... a waste of tempo instead of attacking. I've never even seen that move in the French.
@diggitus
@diggitus 2 ай бұрын
...Bd7 helps Black pile on to d4 (since a Bd3-b5 by White would not come with check and thereby attack whatever piece Black has on the d4 square). Standard move in what must be old theory; White can play the Milner-Barry gambit if he likes just giving Black the d4 pawn. Dangerous at club level but I don't think it's a weapon at higher levels. In any case Black rarely has particularly good options with his LSB
