ChessUp is perhaps one of the best inventions for the game of Chess. Kudos to the ChessUp team for this unique product. I had gifted one to a family members and also had gotten one for my own family (both not sponsored) for Christmas. The quality of the fit and finish of the board, the pieces, UI and UX, the embedded AI capabilities, the app experience, ֶis simply impeccable. I wish the ChessUp team the best in keep going. Fantastic video guys. The biggest difference that i really appriciate with your team and company is the constant weekly updates surrounding the units being shipped, and all the effort you put into communicating with everyone. Compared with other chess tech companies, it really gives the sense that you care about us as the consumer and really care about the product, so thank you for everything. @@vanshshah23 hey mate, sorry I didn't see this in my notifications or nothing. The board itself standalone is great. The built in AI is about 1200 rated, so it will beat the majority of casual chess players. The way they have done the control of pieces, unlike other boards, is it can sense when you're still touching the piece, so you can make moves so much more naturally than most other eboards out there (sliding, pushing enemy piece off square with your own piece and letting go, holding a piece somewhere without the board registering your move before you let go is great). My favorite standalone feature is the AI assistance. I'm better than all my friends and family at chess, so I thought this board would be good to level the playing field and let them have a good time against me. Although I'm quite a bit stronger than the built in board AI, this still gives them winning chances at times and has me in lost positions, which allows them to have good games of chess against me. All of this is further enhanced with the app. The AI level assist is stronger, and more granular (You can pick what AI strength of assist they get, how many moves they are allowed to check, so you can set a limit on what they check, allowing them to still use their brain and thing about the move before moving it(but then confirming with the board AI if it's a good or bad move)). I will say this, as of right now, the Android app is unusable at the moment. If you have an iPhone, you will have little to no trouble using the advanced features of the board with the app, like online play. However, as I write this response, I just noticed that they have posted a video with updates to the Andriod app that make it much more usable (claiming to deploy it in the first week of June) so with those improvements in the pipeline, depending on what bugs and errors are still left in the app, I would be prepared to say that out of all the boards I own (Square off Grand Kingdom, Millenniums Tournament 55 (which I have not been able to use at all because it turned up faulty!!)) this is my favorite execution of how you are able to move pieces, the size of the board, the size of the pieces and weight of the pieces. It's big enough that you feel like you're playing a proper game of chess, but small enough that it can be portable and taken with you. The biggest minus about the board is the apps, but if you have spent any time on their community forums, and talking directly to the CEO (he used to post directly to forum questions all the time), you can see that the care and passion is there from the company. It's hard to wait for things like these apps to get fixed, but I have full confidence they will get things where they need to be, making this board one of the best options all round in my opinion. TLDR; if you are rated below 1200, own an iPhone, enjoy playing online games on lichess with a physical board, want the most natural piece movement of any eboard, and have friends that you are better than, that will benefit from the built in AI assist, this is a great board. Some people don't like that it lights up so much, I honestly love it. If you would rather buy a board that has a more complete feature set and cannot wait for updates to this boards app features, you can find some other good products out there.

Yes - sorry we did not make this clear before. We are also working on an auto calibration procedure so calibration is a thing of the past

Having serious issues with the android app...I still haven't been able to complete the firmware update...all the squares turn blue and then it just sits there...never finishes the update....should i be concerned? also I can't add a photo to my profile...every time I try to add a photo it just logs me out...so wierd...any tips? I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app...same thing happens after Iog in...it shows my name and a little pawn icon where my photo should go...

Thank you for the clear explanation. Do all the colours work when using an external engine like stockfish? What I mean is, in a very deep line will the assist show strong moves? I ask this because from what I understand, the internal engine is around 1000 and as a result, it will be limited in its depth. This would be a buying factor for me.

At around 10 minutes, the pieces are set up incorrectly, but the board doesn't realize that there is a queen where a bishop should be.

I like the board so far. But a few questions. Lets say I want to practice king pawn opposition or pawn breaks. Or just some sort of board position that is not the starting position. Can I set the board up. Choose who go's first with the pieces on the chosen squares?

How far back can you undo moves in standalone mode? Do you need to undo all moves by memory or does it display them?

Is there any way to download the app APK and install it that way? Google Play says my device isn't supported, mainly because it's too old (Galaxy Note 8). However, I would at least like to try it to see if this is just Google's way of forcing me to upgrade.

I offered the board to my kid so that we can play each other on a remote basis. However, I can't add, find, identify friends (ie, people with the chessup application) on the chessup application. I guess it's supposed to be easy... No instructions or video found that explains or shows exactly how to do it, or discussing related possible issues. Thanks for the help.

why does the board turn purple near the end of a game when the AI has a legal move but refuses to move anywhere despite having a legal move available?

I just tried to install the app on my Lenovo tablet that I just bought in the last year and it says it's incompatible as well. What the hell? Is there any other way to get this app or do I really have to drop an additional $1k just to access one of the main features now? Can you provide the APK so I can install it myself?

Android app has a major release in the first week of June 2023 that will significantly improve the Android play. We had to add some more software help and now that we have the right team everything is running well

a pdf manual would be most helpful. for example, one of my games just ended, was not a checkmate, all the lights did something, but was not a checkmate. since i am new to chess, i know the game ended somehow, maybe one type of stalemate. could you explain the various light variations for different endings to the game. thanks.

I love the product and have played maybe a dozen rated games with it so far. However I just got stuck in a spot where one of the squares (h1) barely works. The light turns off at first when I put the piece on it but as I place more pieces on the board it lights back up despite there being a piece on it. I did go through the calibration. Any tips when squares get flakey like this?

On the kickstarter page there are 5 levels of assistance described. Do I understand it correctly this has been reduced to three? If so, which three of the description on the kickstarter page are being used? Thanks!

When connected with the app there are 6 levels (1 being no assistance). When the board runs on its own it offers 3 levels (1 being no assistance). The kickstarter page is accurate - we added the standalone features as an extra.

Does the board actually recognize the piece (by RF), or does it only sense when it's there? Also, the site seems to suggest the AI is built in, but on the KS I see it requires a smartphone or tablet, which is it?

The pieces are tracked from starting position by placement. It has a built in AI for beginning levels and when connected to a smart phone it runs a much stronger AI (stockfish)

One problem with this device, although it is a very nice electronic chess board for learning. Touchsense shows the available moves. Light indicators show the potential moves of a selected piece. Purple highlights the piece Green for the best choices Blue for an ok move Red for a blunder or mistake - and that's where the problem is. The board does not recognize a sacrifice move when you are planning a trap five moves ahead. Every game I play I will make a sacrifice and the square always lights up red. It just doesn't understand what you are doing in the future. All that being said, it is a fun board to use to learn the basics. It would be even better if it understood the players logic.

The AI put into the board isn’t as advanced as if you connect with the board with Bluetooth, where it can then access Stockfish and it will see that far

This board has major issues. I will be in the middle of an awesome game only to have the board glitch out and it won't count my move or let me take it back. Then it wants me to move again and the board has to be reset. This happens about every 4th game. Wish I had never bought it. Junk !!!

Who wants tpo play chess with an AI and still have to move the AI pieces for it and their own. Rubbish think about it, how redundant that is and will be. Id rathe play chess with a donkey.
