When at the gym, I’m always looking forward to do cables for my arms, chest and shoulders workouts. I noticed the difference between cables and machine workouts. I switch it up. One day cables, next day machines and weights on another

I'm a fan of heavy flat bench, but i'll readily admit that it's probably not the absolute best way to build a big chest. It is the most fun way, IMO, though, and can't be beat for improving upper body strength. I don't have a cable fly in my home gym, so I occasionally rig up bands to simulate it as my finisher for chest, and it does hit the muscles for sure. I can't see myself replacing bench with anything as my prime movement, as it's one of the big motivators for getting me to lift period, but I see a lot of advantages of cable fly for sure. Great video as always!

I'm old school AF - barbell multi joint lifts from my first day pumping iron. But it's time for something new! lol I'm sure my neuromuscular recruitment will be challenged, arms shakin'/flailin' everywhere but I'll give this a solid shot. Thanks Jonni. 👍

I don't even feel my pecs benching, probably because I have had to drastically change my form to make it work for my shoulders. I can do incline machine & chest press machine with minimal shoulder pain, and both hit the pecs well

Great video. I've been lifting for over 27 years and I barely bench press. Never did much for me. I'm a pretty big guy and people find it odd that I say I don't bench when asked. I'm glad there's science behind it now.

there isn't science behind it yet. the science hasn't yet been discovered it seems you were just lucky to have found out about it before anyone else and before science could justify it. give it another 10 years and maybe some scientist will be able to explain it.. if there was science behind it, it would only be because you were doing it before science was behind it

i’ve quit regular straight bb bench pressing years ago… bb ohp and incline db for upper, kabuki kadillac bar for a neutral press, cable fly presses (featured in this vid) and dips are GOATED

I live on the cables but it is sometimes challenging to look at the weight and see how low it is compared to either a dumbbell brass, or a barbell press.

Nothing hits your chest shoulders and triceps like the Dip. That deep stretcg at the bottom will give you such strong contractions, you will be left sore for days. Gains are unparalleled and have tremendous carryover to other lifts.

Hey Jonni, you've been a huge help to me. I'm 64 and I grew up in the shadow of the old Boston Garden. so I'm very familiar with the significance of the photo in the frame behind you. Bobby Orr, #4, scored the 4th goal (that one he's flying for) in the 4th game, in the 4th period, in his 4th year with the Bruins, after receiving an assist from Derek Sanderson to win the Stanley Cup in May of 1970.

Personal I avoid cable workouts, simply because it’s a hassle to find the overall right positioning to pull the weight without feeling imbalanced. I prefer the seated fly/delt machine and incorporate the same movements as cable flys. I tend to feel it in my pecs far more then any another chest workouts.

hydrate and warm up your chest well before doing any barbell press, I sprained/tore the belly of the pec recently bench pressing. After I heal I am going to do flys first and then bench last.

Did bench press this morning. 3sets 3 245 lbs. 4 sets 5 at 195 lb both on flat bench. Inclined bench 4 sets 5 at 195 lb. Afterwards 60 reps on seated rows. Tomorrow pec/delt flys , tri's bi's and flies on the cable. By the way I'm 64.

Cable flys and the peck deck stacked with the decline and incline bench does it for me there is nothing else I need to help me develop my chest. Benching has never done anything for me but bring me plateaus and injuries and I’ve never ever felt my chest only my bis tris shoulders and back period!!!

For chest i do incline press flat db press dips cable flys and gymnastics rings dips. along with wooden paralette bar push up variations plus bodyweight chest push up variations. weight plus resistance and bodyweight training for full hypertrophy size mass and aesthetics.

I feel doing triple drop sets on any muscle group has shown amazing pumps and muscle growth, I highly advise drop sets for maximum tears in muscle fibers

I do the cable flies as you outlined, but I set the cable up above shoulder height… am I doing this wrong… should it be shoulder height???

Use cables myself, normally when I do, I do a super-set, and that lights my chest up. The big chest, breath part I'm going to add to the program.

I've gotten to where I prefer using dumbbells, dips, Smith machine, cables for my chest training instead of the barbell bench presses. Easier to train time under tension with Dumbbells, and Smith Machine

I'm going add the cables along with benchpress when I can. Unfortunately my gym only has two cable machines so it's difficult to get on one. I incredibly hate waiting on those machines! 😅😅😅😅😅

I try doing this for the first time in my gym today and holy shitt how much I felt my chest burning and I only put 20 weight and it burn😭, also I been doing bench press 35s each side and it has been challenging but I like it because I only do 5 and holding the weight

I do cable flys and adjust the cables on shoulder height, than high and finally low. I don't use much weight but higher reps. After that I use different kinds of machine flys. After that my pecs are fried.😅

I do steep incline press first , then move to cable flys. Haven't flat benched in over a year. Chest has grown.

I’m curious about how steep… As that would primarily work your delts. Is your goal to wear them out so that the other exercise is better target your chest?

great as always! when you say triple drop set you mean 1 set, reduce weight, 1 set, reduce weight , 1 last set? and is that enough or better do another triple drop srt after a 1-2 minute of rest?

So a triple drop set is: 1 set, reduce the weight, second set, reduce the weight 3rd set . like you said first, then you rest. Usually I program 2 - 3 tripe drop sets. so you would do that 2-3 times. resting in between.

I did your chest and triceps workout this morning 🔥 Ignition set on incline dumbbell flies then.. 45 seconds incline dumbbell flies 1 minute rest 45 seconds cables 1 minute rest 45 seconds pushups 1 minute rest 45 seconds one arm incline dumbbell press. 1 minute rest 45 seconds flat dumbbell press 🔥 3 sets Then incline tricep extensions on Smith machine 4 sets 15. If didn't get 15, rested 15 seconds, went until completed set. Seated EZbar tricep extensions 4 sets 15. Tricep pushdowns with V bar. 3 sets of 3 drop down sets🔥🔥🔥 You Da Man Jonni💪🏼 I'm still pumped.

Can you do a video on only cable and machine exercises for the full body as this cable chest exercise is for me even better than a bench press as i feel the constant tension more and also you gain more muscle.
